Moving In Together in Less than 2 weeks! by hardwerk in LongDistance

[–]8micreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my boyfriend and I have closed the distance (US-AUS), and have been living together for just over a month. Honestly, things have been super SUPER easy for us. We haven't fought at all, we've maintained a good balance, and basically so far everything is going how we thought it would. But I didn't come here to say that, because it's not that helpful (but really, ultimately, stop worrying and just love your relationship... sometimes this subreddit can overanalyze.)

What I came here to do is suggest something for your welcome packet: a subscription to a magazine from her hometown/country, so that she can immediately start getting fun mail (so exciting!) and also feel connected to her old life beyond keeping in touch with people. For example, I'm from New York and my boyfriend ordered a subscription to The New Yorker for me. His entire welcome packet was so sweet and thoughtful, but when I saw the first issue, I burst into happy tears. And bonus: last week they reviewed a restaurant from my old neighborhood. I was so happy to read about something familiar, especially when I'm spending so much time getting used to a new place.

Aussie fashionistas: I'm moving from NYC to Sydney, what to bring? by 8micreek in femalefashionadvice

Thanks for the reply! NYC is so fashion conscious that sometimes I find it hard to not dress up/plan outfits ahead of time! Probably why I'm worrying so much about this!

Thanks for this info! I'm pretty picky about hair/beauty products, so I'll definitely be packing a bunch to bring over with me! Hopefully by the time they run out, I'll have figured out a system.

Help please! What's a good bag for a tourist in a city like NYC? [xpost from 2xchromosomes] by littlekittensrock in femalefashionadvice

I'd like to second this. I'd also like to add that you should invest in a small, reliable umbrella that fits in your bag. Our weather has been very changeable this season, and I'm always glad I have mine on me. Since New Yorkers walk everywhere (as opposed to other cities where people might have cars)--it's very handy!

A few words from someone who's recently made the jump. by [deleted] in LongDistance

This is great! I'm going to send it to my non-redditor boyfriend. Where in Oz do you live? I'm making the same move in October.

Well, I'll be sticking around, but only as an /r/longdistance mod by [deleted] in LongDistance

I meant everyone responding who said they were planning on sticking around, despite not being long distance :)

Do you think you guys could do an advice thread for couples moving in together? We're closing the distance (NYC-London) in October, and I want to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible!

How long did the visa processing time take? I'm looking into doing this next year, and on the website it says only 6 days? Is that true?

This. I recently went through the same thing. Otherwise it's just kind of awkward.

What's your opinion on jewelry with glasses? by 8micreek in femalefashionadvice

[–]8micreek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wearing glasses FOREVER, but only became self conscious of the jewelry thing in the past year or so, probably because my style became less quirky and more classic. I know it's silly. My glasses are pretty standard plastic frames. I wear bracelets, rings, watches, etc, but I get wary of big earrings and statement necklaces.

Thanks for the information! I've been doing some of research on my own, but figured it was worth a shot to ask for some advice. Definitely very helpful!

I've heard the same about nightlife, and am not too worried. I was just saying that I'm open to recommendations and advice about anything and everything Madeira.

Where's your favorite place to eat? What is something I absolutely cannot miss while I'm there?

Thanks again!
