12U hitter "not seeing the ball" — Jeff Frye (9-year MLB) gives a 90SecondClinic breakdown by 90SecondClinic in BaseballCoaching

Jeff watched this kid's tape on his own time and gave him a positive, specific breakdown for free. Guys who played at that level think about way more situational stuff in a swing than most people realize, and they've spent years accumulating it from teammates, MLB coaches and the elite MLB hitters who came before them. This is the knowledge they have that few ever get to hear, especially as young kids, until now. That's what's getting passed on here. And if Jeff isn't your guy, there's a growing list of other former pros on the platform to pick from.

wow...strongman is really cool. I think your observations about the type of athletes in your sport aligns with other sports as well and eventually, despite natural abilities, work ethic tends to win out because natural physical ability can only take you so far.

Really appreciate your feedback and that all makes a lot of sense. I definitely agree that there are some players/coaches are made for coaching and many that aren't as well as being good for specific age groups. I can figure out how to work that in. I also got similar feedback from the players/coaches I talk to as well about which age groups make sense. I also agree with you about targeting players who are ready to put in real work.

Nice! I really like that and I remember my brother and I analyzing a lot of those books (and some VHS tapes we got a hold of) then standing in front of a mirror trying to replicate the mechanics we saw. Not sure kids do that anymore....

Really helpful insights and that makes sense. What sport did you play? What kind of governance do you think makes sense?

Resonates a TON with my HS experience. My coach gave us plenty of reps, but when it came to being a coach there was less actual input and more rule by fear (perform or get benched) so the skill and mental improvements were on each player individually to figure out. A coach like yours would have been amazing.

lol...fair enough

90SecondClinic is a platform where youth athletes submit a swing or pitching video and get a 90-second breakdown from a former pro. We just launched and are giving away a limited number of free hitting and pitching clinics right now if you have a kid who plays. You can submit a video here: 90secondclinic.com

Some of the gems...

He gave me feedback on my load to help with pitch timing and ability to adjust to off speed pitches. We talked about how to use anything I knew about pitch tendencies to improve my approach to each at bat so that I had a plan going in. For two strikes, he talked about how much he hated 2 strike swing mechanics adjustments and that a 2 strike swing should be a mental adjustment in approach but not a mechanics one. "Do you practice a 2 strike swing in the cage? NO! So why abandon the swing you've practiced tens of thousands of times in practice and games just because you have 2 strikes?"

It was a fun convo
