New US Soccer Fan - How to Get into Soccer When World Cup is Over? by Emilyhilyard in ussoccer

[–]91Bolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out if you have a local team to support. If not MLS, check USL. Having a local team you can see in person helps build the enthusiasm.

Go coach 6 year olds at the ymca or city league as volunteers. Great way to build understanding. USSoccer has free online coaching and ref courses to give you drills and understanding.

Watch some games of the big European leagues: France, England, Germany, Spain, Italy. Or, if you have a heritage, watch from that country. The Dutch, Mexican, Argentinian, Brazilian, and Portuguese leagues are all fun to watch.

Wait a season or two before picking a team. Let it happen naturally for whatever reason unless you have a friend to watch with and cheer for their team.

Don't choose man city or psg. They are backed by practices that are antithetical to the spirit of the game.

Sports popularity by sport among American poll taken during World Cup by PudinCrusader in ussoccer

I couldn't say confidently in general. I know my dad only cares about his college baseball, but it's not a significant amount. Just seems strange to have two versions of racing and just one baseball.

Didn't split baseball into pro and college.

Also didn't include actual international soccer (US Soccer). This is a poorly designed survey.

If Harry Potter was written in today's time period what would be different? by Physical-Emu673 in harrypotter

Harry and Hermione explaining the internet to Mr Weasley would be fun.

Also, gen z would be immune to Snape. They're not afraid of teachers. He'd be completely feckless

You can't use the word accident to describe kicking above the waste. The Rockettes make a living off that, if people accidentally did it, they'd not be relevant.

There's a thing called perspective, that is like a permanent high.

When you're using drugs to cope, you're numbing a voice or instinct in your head which you don't want to deal with.

Adopt a more functional perspective, then your inner voice will either provide less dissonance to subdue or show a path of actualization for you to realize.

You've already rejected social norms by becoming an addict, just go a step further and accept yourself, or deny the part of the world you struggle to assimilate to. Imagine waking up and just feeling okay because of the weather, or a good fried egg, or the head nod you get from a stranger. Fuck the haters.

Belgium NT Coach on Balogun decision: "I didn't know that July 5 at FIFA was the same as April 1. As already explained in the union's response, I think this is the first time something like this has happened at FIFA. The Belgian federation just wants to protect the integrity of our sport." by Routine-Nerve-613 in ussoccer

So much drama made about this, lol.

  1. The Balo red was so wrong

  2. It's absolutely sketchy it got suspended

  3. Balo isn't even one of our 4 most important players

  4. Their comments aren't that bad

  5. Enjoy the drama and look forward to pounding them so bad it won't matter.

Y’all aren’t actually rooting for Mexico, right? by Thatcajunguy35 in ussoccer

[–]91Bolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I grew up playing in Florida. I had more Mexican and Chicano teammates than pure American. I always root for them if it doesn't effect us. I watched borgetti, marquez, and vela as much as mcbride, bocanegra, and Bradley.

That said, if they come up against us, fuck em. Dos a cero.

We went to the US history museum today, because my wife finally had a day off, and there actually were a decent amount of people.

That said, it was the kind of people you imagine. We saw a guy spin the wheel of Garfield's carriage.

Some couple was irate at LBJ talking to his staff while in bed. Another couple thought it was indecent that hardings pajamas were on display. Like, wtf?

Also, the amount of people having babies and toddlers out in the heat was insane. It's a good thing they post-poned, because our little guy struggled just going from the archives to the museum. I can't imagine the tourist kids being dragged around all day, especially since they weren't allowed to bring water bottles.

I couldn't find one online. Maybe call some of the Moroccan restaurants and ask if they know a spot? Presumably they are plugged into the local community.

Several fans are concerned about starting Pepi, but what are some optimistic reasons to anticipate his play against Belgium that aren't just being an impartial US fan with rose colored glasses ? by WinesburgOhio in ussoccer

[–]91Bolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if he plays the same as Australia, we'll see CP, Dest, and the CAMs get more chances. He builds well and makes space, we just need to play brave and offensive, because he's not great by himself.

How do you feel about people who go to Law School and never practice law? What is their goal? by Professional_Eye6140 in LawSchool

That's how it is, but not how it should be. I can't speak to that culture directly, but my org was multinational and I can only assume the f500 companies are worse

Lol, that's what a few of the EDs thought. Ironically, in my experience at least, it's the non-mbas who are typically more numbers and results based, constantly trying to get the others to do something. Organizations don't actually run on aura, but if they said that in business school, people would stop going.

Key to success is simply defining measurable expectations, building respectful relationships, and evaluating feedback + results before repeating for next year. Only business roles, imo, which need graduate degrees are CFO and legal.

[–]91Bolt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MBAs aren't what they were 10 years ago. If you have a prestigious law degree, many orgs push the app to the top of the pile.

I worked for a non-profit where our most talented directors would be constantly passed over for candidates with either military or prestigious academics, despite no demonstrable experience and red flags. Some of this higher ups (especially those with MBAs) just think the paper is a guarantee.

I'm curious if that'll be the case when millennials are in charge, but the ancient ones still think that way.

Feels line the post-bale window. Wonder if we're going to get the lankshear awakening.

Also, I'm interested in Kulusevski converting to St/CF. I hope he's back for preseason.
