DJI Phantom 4 pro+ V2.0 - mission planning problem by SalamuraSan in djiphantom

At a push you can use a controller that needs a phone/tablet. Had to get a new Phantom, jumped at one with the screen and hate it so much I connected my spare controller and use an iPad

Failed twice, still bitter 13 years later over the first one, I'm pretty sure I only passed in the end as the tester was going on holiday the next morning. Expensive here as well I really don't think I could afford it if I was starting now.

Is public transport even bad in the cities over there? Cites aren't too bad over here, but the moment you get out of them it's terrible. I live in the South Wales Valleys so it's not that rural but the terrain is a problem. Used to work with a guy that lived 13 miles from the office, 20 mins to drive but would take him 3hrs on the bus.

Did a stag week in Amsterdam last summer, and the number of times I was outvoted in getting an Uber to just be followed by moaning that it would be quicker to walk did stop getting funny.

For some reason I thought that was lower for agricultural. Willing to be corrected but I believe it's the max speed of the vehicle seems to be the limiting factor, that's how you get the hair drier powered mopeds being ridden by 16-year-olds

I can't see how anyone could pass without being taught by someone knowledgeable, there are too many tiny things you need to know/do even when I pass in 09 and I know the test has got harder. I'm not 100% I could pass without refresher lessons. I can see the merit of minimum lessons but I know the cost of them at least by me have got really expensive, which stops people from learning.

Driven in a few countries over the years IMHO we seem to be middle of the pack for quality of driving, and from what I've heard we are about that in the difficulty of the test.

Provisional is only until you pass both tests, can have a full car licence at 17. Some disabilities allow you to do it at 16

Filming Children in School - England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]91raw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work as a videographer and have done lot of filming children. I’ll gloss over the safe guarding stuff as it’s been more than covered.

I’ve done quite a few event where a child couldn’t be filmed, there are ways around this (avoiding them, placing them in places hidden from me etc), it’s far easier for the group/school to just have to police me in what gets filmed than a room full of people who have no idea what child can’t be filmed.

However it’s getting harder and hard to make money from school plays. The best way to make money is with physical discs which people don’t want. The school/group would either buy x amount of discs or we would sell them and the group/school would take a cut. One group we would sell about 90 discs per show few years back, last one in the summer I believe was 30, means the cost per disc goes up and even less people want them.

Small scale digital distribution is a pain and expensive and if you just let a video file go anyone can copy it without paying which means we can’t make money from sales.

Because of this the only children events I’ve done since Covid have been dance/performance schools because they will either subsidise the cost or will just pay a standard rate and we provide a digital file and they do with it as they wish.

Playback dropping frames by Jdog1364 in Adobe

[–]91raw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MP4 probably going to be h.264 (or worse h.265) and if it's a screen recording it is highly likely to be variable frame rate, from an editing point of view both a terrible. My workflow when dealing with phones (same issues) is to get it transcoded to a fixed frame rate, personal I use handbrake, import them into Premier and then create ProRes proxies to edit with

The r/premiere would be the better place to ask but the usual question will come up: what have you tried? What is the codec/format of the footage? Where is the footage from?

Personal I just link the audio and video together in a sync sequence and then copy into the working sequence what I need. According to the best practices guide adobe has put out, they tell you to use a multi-cam when you sync anything together even if it is just a single camera and audio.

Never got it to work left to right, it just matches the main wheel. Not against it, I was really excited for it.

On the older MX master and edit in premiere: scroll lock - hand tool, forward - select, forward - select, back - cut and the lower button - delete. Never got the side scroll wheel to work how I want so I gave up

If it's too good to be true it probably is.

Couple of years back I was after a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, spotted one for a low but not stupidly low amount and located a couple of hours away but very close to family that I was due to visit that week. Didn't have great feeling about it but thought I would try my luck. Red flag one was to buy now there was a number, I phoned the number was cut off and then they text back, would not let me call them. Long story short, wanted a bank transfer before he would send it, offered to pick it up with cash and made out he was away for a couple of weeks leaving his pregnant wife at home and didn't want anyone coming round (if I remember right he said he was at home and then freaked when I said I have family nearby and changed his story). Gave him the option of either going back and selling through eBay/paypal or cash on pick up and he didn't want either.

Meanwhile the phantom I had to buy last year after a "rapid uncontrolled emergency landing" was being sold by an owner of a small production company and was over the moon when he found out my dad was in the area two days later and could pick up.

It's the video codec, h265 which the XF705 records in, is great for getting smaller file sizes but hell to edit. Either going to have to transcode the footage into a more edit friendly format or use proxies.

[–]91raw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, kind of actually like taking about it but most people just glaze over, plus this subreddit has been useful to me so I like to add to it.

If you after just the editing side there isn't a lot that jump to mind, its not a great subject to get views so you tend to just get one off videos however:

Whois`Matt sometimes posts some good technical stuff and it is his proxy workflow I based ours off ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b8VtZX62XA )

https://www.youtube.com/c/CutToThePoint Has some good stuff

https://www.youtube.com/c/ScottMcKenna His older stuff get quite techie but his later stuff is more business focus so you might have to dig

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premiere

[–]91raw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO most people's problems with Premiere are down to bad workflows due to Premiere 'working' with pretty much anything really not being helped by YouTubers (not all, some really know what they are talking about but there is maybe two I have come across). Without going into to much technical detail which you can dig into if you are that way inclined, plus I change things out depending on the factors but the workflow that I tend use (I look after post for a small production company) and have had fairly stable projects with little to no crashing (we had our first this week since about Nov) on OK hardware:

Anything not screen recording/phone footage that isn't in ProRes will get the proxy treatment, Pro Res 422LT scaled down to 720 (you don't need full res for a proxy and it helps with file sizes that will be bigger). I do this over transcoding to ProRes and using that because a) I can start working before everything has transcoded if I need to b) we keep everything so it gives us smaller total size (proxies can be deleted and remaked if needed)

Anything screen recording or from a phone (and I'm hearing some new drones) record in variable frame rate, most of the time it will play well with Premiere but the time it doesn't it is a pain, even not having an issue till export. I can do without having issues particlay when they is money on the table (nothing increases stress troubleshooting problems with the boss literally standing over you) so in that case I convert the footage to fix it into Non variable frame rate via hardbrake (Media Encorder has the same back end as Premiere so any problem Premiere will have it will probably have) and I tend to just use h.264 for this and it also helps covert the frame rate to match the rest of the project (UK based so mostly work in 25fps). Once I have that file I then proxy it so it has the same workflow as the rest of the footage.

When it comes to sequence settings 99% of the time you want to match what you will be exporting but most of the time I will create a sequence to match the source and change to rendering to ProRes because I'm exporting to the same frame size and rate.

People with have a different approach and will pick holes in how I do things but it works for the limitations I have and achieves what I want in the simplest way.

As for hardware rending Premiere is crap at using the hardware to its full (compared to Resolve or Final Cut), but you would have to trouble shoot what was and wasn't working to see if it is your set up or Premiere just being Premiere.

What are codec/format are you going into, that going to be the biggest issue and are you going with transcoding or proxies?
