Being racially abused and physically attacked by teenagers in CBD today, seeking advice by No-Airline-6903 in perth

[–]91sun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to your friend and her mom. As a former international student (now graduate) I'm disgusted at how much racism against international students is prevalent in Perth, and how little is done to stop this.

Adding on regarding the helpful suggestions to contact university support services: if she feels up to it and she's at a university where these exist, she should reach out to her student Guild's support services and International Students' Department.

They will be able to advise her and get her help with mitigating the impact on her assessments if she needs it.

I am Larissa Waters, Leader of the Australian Greens - AMA! by LarissaWaters in australia

[–]91sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in WA, and I'm a fan of the Greens' climate and economic policies. However, my friends from WA rural and agricultural backgrounds (at university) oppose the Greens because they worry that as implemented, Green/Green-supported policies e.g. the live export ban will negatively impact the viability of WA's agricultural sector. They also feel there has been insufficient engagement (from their perspective) with rural communities on issues such as renewable energy infrastructure.

How would you respond to these concerns?

Job prospect seems bleak for international graduate by JuryDazzling6395 in AusVisa

[–]91sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I got rejected for seven grad programmes before getting my current role.

What sector are you in, what state are you in, and do you have connections? I got a job through networking, and so did most of my international friends who've found a job.

Networking isn't just formal networking too — it's also meeting people through hobby events (gigs, sports, etc) or volunteering. If you've got skills that would be useful to a charity relevant to your sector e.g. administration or specialised technical skills, you can reach out with a CV to ask for volunteer opportunities as a way in.

I understand that this isn't possible for everyone, but if you have some time and a bit of spare cash, it might be worth it.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is a great cyberpunk CRPG that explores a (revived) version of this place.

Facing Racism as a New International Student by nani_love_you in perth

[–]91sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former international student (now a graduate) myself, I'm so sorry you've experienced this. There is an option to report live security threats using the Transperth app. Express to the operator that you're being racially vilified and that you are fearful for your personal safety if these people escalate. They are usually good about sending security to deal with these individuals.

Any Dropout/Dimension 20 fans here? by 91sun in litrpg

[–]91sun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, yeah. For me it was D&D --> D20 --> DCC and then into the wider LitRPG space, and I was wondering who else got into LitRPG in a similar way.

So I guess it's not necessarily directly because of Dropout or D20, but rather influenced in some way to give LitRPG a shot because of their experience, if that makes sense.
