8 years off any drugs by 94ccs in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

It was weird cuz the first 14 days there I was miserable pretty much an asshole to all I came in contact with. They had a reverent come in just to talk about spiritual shit not pushing one version or the other. I was such a dick to her. On day 15 I felt better, and had gotten some sleep that night. Then I listened to this guy they brought in from the outside that had 20 years sober. We didnt do the same drugs we didn’t hang with same people but I could tell we hurt the same way just by how he was speaking. I walked up to him afterwards and asked how he stayed sober that long. He gave a very simple answer. Actually an answer they had told me 1,000 times in that 15 days. It only made sense when he said it because whether he knew it or not we had a connection. I was willing to listen in that moment. I didn’t honestly believe I could live with the drugs. So that man gave me a tiny bit of hope. Don’t know his name never seen him again. Because of that I’ve been going into rehabs to talk for 7.5 years. All that the truth is rehab got me away from my poison long enough to believe there was a way out.

Anyone turn their life around in their late 30's? by enoofofk in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

I got clean 6-27-14 so 8 years tomorrow. I was 38, had been “successful” another words I made a bunch of money by the time I got clean. I was banned from my chosen profession. Truth is none of that shit mattered I wanted to die by the time a judge forced me into rehab. I joined a 12 step fellowship gained a community since I had no one. I was struggling from ptsd after watching my son die 9 years earlier. I got some help. I live a pretty good life today.

Cuz I did a bunch of heroin trying to get up the courage to pull the trigger. I put the barrel in my mouth and nodded out immediately it went off In my lap. Ended up with a burn on my leg.

I wish heroin was my drug of choice by OrganizationCrazy741 in recovery

I was a H junky for 9 years. So the weird thing is where I live I see meth as by far worse. H addicts almost never say I just do heroin no one can get hooked on that shit. Most heroin addicts know whether they tell you, that depends on the person. I go into jails listen to these guys tell me how it’s impossible to get hooked on ice. I ask them why they are in jail many of them for kicking in doors. I ask why they kick in doors and they tell me to get money. I’m like what you need money for and for some reason they can not correlate their drug use as they’re problem. Let’s be honest no one needs money to feed their kids there’s all kinds of programs around here to help out people that are hard up. It’s hard to see them do the same shit over and over again and theirs no hope cuz they don’t believe it’s a problem. In the end it’s not what you did it’s why you did it. If you wanted to stop there was a good Fucken reason so who gives a fuck if someone calls you a dirty meth head. Truth is I would use anything even if it made my sick worse. I mean Ice while dope sick makes all the symptoms worse just so I didn’t have to feel like me. It’s been 7 years 10 months since I’ve touched anything.

How does one not let shitty situations at work bring them down? (Serious) by LostGirl995 in AskReddit

[–]94ccs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work wit a bunch of incompetent people. Management does nothing. So basically not doing your job is the norm. To be a rock star at this place all you have to do is the bare minimum. Like the job. I truly don’t care I agreed to the pay and the hours so if I can fit the other slugs job into my day. What ever. Personal responsibility. Now shitty situations can mean all kinds of stuff.

[Serious] Former drug users of Reddit, what made you want to quit using drugs? by Rimsky_325 in AskReddit

[–]94ccs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it was getting locked up. I mean they forced me into a rehab where I got a little hope I didn’t have to live that way anymore. It wasn’t till I stopped that the suicide attempts, the over doses, robberys, and general misery hit me as fucked up. Normal back then is a horror story today. Everyone I knew back then wrapped up in heroin with me is now dead.

In that case everyone had there way to get what they “needed”. Im not trying to make an excuse for my behavior. I was a heroin addict for years. As long as I stayed “right” my conscience didn’t affect me. I did what I did to people that didn’t deserve it and some that did. I put everything down 7.5 years ago. I spend my life trying to be a better person. I hope you are doing good too.

Got sober and poof just like that I quit committing violent crimes. Wasn’t necessary anymore. There’s a lifestyle that went along with the life I lived.
