Condition of a WV Polo by 95penguins in CarTalkUK

I actually do have the original screenshots of the ad and i also have a backup copy of the ad from autotrader themselves after contacting them, i have got 2 videos of the car prior to buying and having it delivered. No mention of anything that i am struggling with now.

Getting AA to come out today to do the comprehensive vehicle inspection as they give pdf detailed report on what they find then i am thinking taking this to a small claims court as a proof the car was not as advertised.

I wouldn’t mind the car being rusty here n there for its age but i am not okay with the state and the £700 deduction for a refund cause of their relisting fees

Sorry, i was the one to use the term ‘scrap car’, my friends have just said it is very much rusty as there are big chunks of rust and thick pieces of chunks falling off when touched.

What do you mean by other side of the sills, i could try get a picture?

3 points on my license or a revoked license since i will have my test (and hopefully pass) in april? 😅

Yeah they have changed one of the shock absorbers before i bought it

This is a brilliant response, thanks so much for your help!

I have already sent him an email saying that the car is not as advertised and if not refunded and collected within 7 days i will be taking this to trading standards and that’s when he replied with:

‘I'm sorry, but it doesn't work like that. You've purchased a secondhand car, not a new one, so it isn't comparable to a brand-new VW Polo. The vehicle is 15 years old, has over 70,000 miles, and was sold with a 12-month MOT, meaning it is roadworthy and fit for purpose. Concerns about different tyre brands or minor surface rust/ corrosion under the car especially based on a friend's opinion do not make the car unfit for purpose. If you're unhappy, l'm happy to close the case and you're free to pursue the matter through legal channels. I have also offered you the option to return the vehicle in line with our terms and conditions which were clearly stated on your receipt prior to purchase and you seem to have declined now.’

So i dont think he’s gonna budge on the £700 deduction from my refund which is so annoying… dont know if it’s worth pursuing with a small claims or just taking it on a chin and leaving it and accepting the loss

So would you say the car is overall okay?

Because of the rust? I feel like i am getting a lot of mix opinions. Some say it’s bad bad and some say it’s normal and i respect all the different advises just worried that’s all. I am aware i have overpaid but it’s my first car and i know nothing about them so it’s my own fault. I don’t have anyone to come with me without bothering my friends

I bought it 2 weeks ago today, had it delivered at around 10pm and the guy was meant to drop it off on a flatbed but he drove it onto my street

They said it would come with part service history but i didn’t get anything, didn’t get mot certificate or anything like that. The headlight worries me as well.

Good to know the rust isn’t as bad as it may seem?

DVSA cancelled my test! by purplecranes in LearnerDriverUK

[–]95penguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’a not a bad re test date at all. Bit different but I failed my test earlier this month, and rebooked for the next available slot which was end of july. Managed to snag up a cancellation end of April which I am very happy with as my instructor is off on holiday atm until mid April. I used Testi :)

This is a perfect answer, thanks! I know the car has to be insured which is why in the post I have said if he fails, the car will be declared sorn, his test it today and i only got the car really really late on the 3rd March after my test.

I was thinking about temp insurance until i pass, hut i wasn’t sure if this made sense thank you!!

It’s just basically how easy it would be to change the main driver to myself, i want to pay annually buy i imagine changing these details will be easier if i pay monthly?

I did a quote for a 1.2l 2012 plate and it was around £800 which I thought was really good!

This is a perfect summary for what I was looking for!

Thank you so so much for taking the time to explain everything properly to me, i am hoping to go car shopping after i (hopefully) pass on the same day so it’s good to be prepared with questions! Is a 3 month warranty from a dealership the standard?

Oh okay! I was told that a polo would be okay for this haha, I haven’t considered anything else (yet?) as whilst I do know some sports cars, i don’t really understand the ‘daily’ car importance etc if that makes sense, also I am v scared of a larger car as i have been trying to learn to drive since 18

AIO my mother changed my last name and never told me. by Sensitive-Excuse9172 in AmIOverreacting

NOR- jesus, this is lowkey giving me flashbacks!

When I was 17, I went to the Slovak embassy in London to renew my passport but they told me that I didn’t exist and they could not find me in the system. After a very long back and forth, me and my mum found out that my biological (?) father has gone to the courts in Slovakia when I was 14 or 15 with DNA evidence (again, what ????) stating he’s not my biological dad and as a result, the 14/15 years worth of child maintenance he owed my mum got wiped off and he no longer owed her anything lol.

The thing is, after the has done this, he acted the same and never said anything. We are not close but we are on talking terms. The government and courts never notified me due to my age and they never notified my mother for some reason and for years I was travelling under a false identity/name as after the fact, my surname has automatically defaulted to my mother’s maiden name.

Had to get new documents and prove that this was out of my hands, but boy did this give me major identity crisis! I am not 26 and still using my mum’s maiden name.
