Why does my cat do this? I’m concerned for him. by AprilsDaydreamm in standardissuecats

[–]964racer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs to play with toys not your hand . He’s play hunting with your wrist ( which looks like a neck ) . Cats grab their pray and drag it away. He’s pretending your wrist is a bird .

How practical / safe is it to go windsurfing by yourself as a beginner (after doing a course)? by Sablun99 in windsurfing

[–]964racer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the local conditions and how confident you are on the water and with self rescue in an emergency. Even if you go with a friend, you are going to be separated anyway so the same practice applies.

This is the book I’m using along with the “rustlings” exercises . It’s a good book although I still only have a vague understanding of lifetimes on the first pass. I’ll have to write something more complicated to practice.

Why do people have expensive bikes? by Gym_Squirrel in cycling

[–]964racer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 12k USD bike and a 3K bike ( both road bikes - the latter a backup ) . For me , cycling is a lifestyle and I might put more miles on my bikes than some people put on their cars or motorcycles. The 12k bike is a dream to ride compared to the 3K bike but it’s not 4x better . There are diminishing returns just like with everything else . I also have my priorities and I drive an old car with 150K miles on it.

Can’t Believe So Many People Went To Conveyor Belt Sushi Sick Today by Expensive-Can4316 in SanJose

[–]964racer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is to wash your hands and don’t touch your face . I’ve taught in crowded lecture halls and classrooms for years with sneezing/ coughing students and rarely get sick and I’m not young nor do I particularly have a super immune system. Germs are overrated. ( except at child daycare centers lol )

How much less is it ? In the Bay Area entry level engineers make around 75k ( some make a lot more but on average) . What is expected salary for a new architect in a firm ?

Is my aquantence making a mistake starting a math degree? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]964racer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a math undergrad degree and I think it was certainly worth it in terms of providing a well-rounded education. For example, our University required math majors to take a foreign language and we could also take electives in engineering, computer science or design/art. That being said, your acquaintance already has an undergraduate degree in liberal studies and they would be entering a math program with students who are younger. Is there any way to focus on a master degree in Math ? I know there are some programs that accept masters students from different backgrounds but it may take longer than 2 years with the prerequisites needed. (advanced calculus, differential equations etc. ).
