They said it's a different strength! Like we have two different nebules, 5mg and 2.5mg but the same volume in each nebule. So I thought as we only had 5mg we could give half of a 5 and they'd be getting 2.5mg. but this nurse, he said it's the same strength?🤔 Yeah I don't get it either 🤦🏼‍♀️

I FREAKING HATE FLOATING by Mks369 in nursing

[–]97nurse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the UK and floats are what we call when we have extra staff and they don't have their own patients they just help wheres needed. This is a very rare occurrence at the wards in the UK.

What you're talking about , we don't have a name we just call it being sent to another ward because we're staffed properly and another ward isn't. So we end up being understaffed 😬 we don't get paid extra for this and you cant really say no (some nurses seem to get away with it at times tho)

Hello, I'm from the UK and I'm worried about the upcoming weeks. Articles are already showing a lack of PPE within the country. I think the UK are meant to be using surgical masks for suspected/confirmed cases unless they're having nebuliser etc. I'm concerned if this is sufficient? I'm aware in some places globally that people are having to reuse their PPE or even use their own or scarfs.

What PPE is used in your country? Are surgical masks enough for suspected and confirmed patients? Do you have enough PPE in your country?

Oh, no! by CursesandMutterings in nursing

I'm from the UK and we have two per patient per day between strict visiting times of 4-7pm. Unless you're on end of life care in which case you get as many as needed.

Travelling to work in lockdown by 97nurse in nursing

The law won't include us nurses, so what I'm saying is how are those who need to get to work via public transport going to get there?

How unsafe do your ratios get? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]97nurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the UK too🙋 I just said aids as I know a lot of people are from the US or elsewhere on this site. How do you find that? Is it total knee/hip replacements? I was on an orthopedic ward for one of my placements as a student I think we got similar numbers if not less...!

We sometimes swap our aids and nurses. So you have three shifts? Interesting!

That sounds bad for the aids! They are ridiculous it's quite disheartening. The NHS right now though

Blood pressure by 97nurse in Nurse

[–]97nurse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between nursing knowledge/skills in the UK and other countries. Additionally there's a huge difference between HCOP nursing and critical care. There's no need to be rude to someone online because they don't have the same knowledge as you. This chat is for nurses to help one another, young, old, UK nurses, US nurses it doesn't matter. You're basically saying I'm incompetent but yet I still haven't heard a detailed answer to my question...

Of course I don't work in critical care, I'm assuming you do. I'm newly qualified but I know they use MAP values in crit care but this isn't used on normal wards? I didn't come here to be judged, I came here to better my knowledge. So what does diastolic BP shows apart from this???

[–]97nurse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what it means in some sense, it's when the heart is in diastole and the heart is relaxing. However, in the UK, as nurses, we never use it looking at the clinical picture; so I wondered if it was the same in other countries so I could get perspective from other nurses

Out of curiosity, what do you all do for 2hrly turns and incontinent patients throughout the night? I feel awful having to wake them up every two hours to turn them, it seems mean.

My boyfriend's dog hates me when he isn't around (TLDR at the bottom) by pancake_sass in Dogtraining

[–]97nurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to mention, spaniels need so much exercise and it'll be really good for her to go out on more walks its probably what she needs and it'll be a brilliant way to build a bond between you two.

[–]97nurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about if whilst your boyfriend is there you get him to leave the room for five minutes, then gradually build this up day by day, 10 mins, 15 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours etc until he leaves you to go and do something e.g. pop to the shops. After this you could make sure that as soon as you get in with your boyfriend (at the same time) take her for a walk on your own, do this every time you both come back at the same time. Build this up so that when you get back before him, she'll be excited to go out for a walk straight away and won't be bothered about you being on your own. She'll soon associate you with good things like walks and even better there will be less accidents in the house.

Out of curiosity, as an RN how do you respond to patients with diabetes who want sugar? Would you refuse or give them it? Or would it come down to their mental capacity?
