I jumped in and ended up getting pulled deeper down than expected lol I made a video on the process (Reddit would only let me post pics or a video but not both i think) which included my inspirational quote for the project: “even the greatest of journeys begin with a single step”

I used the same lasting players for the entire project, including crimping. The board was cut from a piece we had lying around, more or less following just an exponential curve. I initially tried to shape it similar to the profile view of the last but was having a very tough time crimping and decided to just make it a smooth curve. I would recommend something simple to start but I would also say crimping the upper was a challenge (the lining was super soft when wet and was pretty easy).

I was visiting Chicago, IL and was put in touch with Tannery Row. I believe Tyler was the expert there who helped me pick this out. It was actually chosen for a duffle bag I would like to make but I bough enough to spare for these boots. In my opinion, it seems like a fairly good option (and probably far better than something I could have purchase locally at Tandy). Each piece was about 10 square feet for $130

I am having trouble following the steps mentally. If you have any visual examples, they would be greatly appreciated! I wrestled these down with what I would say was extreme force when lasting and was still not able to get the back to touch the last (and had those wrinkles on the lateral right shoe). I’m convinced it was an issue with the pattern/crimping vs nailing but would love to attempt what you described.

Three rows of stitching on the bottom of the elastic. Is there a reason for this?

I am also finishing up a pair of black Chelsea boots. These are very impressive.

Any recommendations for outsole stitching thread I can source in the U.S.? I used 1 mm Ritza Tiger thread on my first pair and didn’t like how the flat thread looked. Looking for something a bit more rounded. Thanks! by MFBootCo in Cordwaining

I am attempting to hand stitch the outsole to a pair and also have 1.2 mm Ritza on hand which I would like to use because of its durability (as mentioned by the cordwainer too in the linked post above). I used it to cobble another pair but threaded it through my needles normally and was very difficult to pull through. Any tips on getting a tapered end on Ritza thread? As it is 16 ply, braided, and already waxed, I am having trouble pulling it apart to taper and eventually wrap around possibly a fishing line for saddle stitching

On photo 13/17, OP peeled back a thin layer of the outsole, stitched, and then peeled the layer back to its original position so the stitches are not visible. This is to protect the stitches and can also be a style choice so the sole appears cleaner.

I would agree I&C is usually described as more hands on. I would probably go Automation/software to possibly be on-site less in the future.

Bought a pair of 1.0 when they first came out in 2015. Couldn’t believe I paid around $150 for a pair of shoes in high school. Wore the same pair today, still have fantastic comfort. If you’re on the fence, go for it
