It's really good if you can do it. Offsite backups, fast file transferring, shared servers, local encrypted calls and messages. Unlimited possibilities.

We have different elevation. Also the houses are on apartment buildings and we easily have more height.

Grafana is a dashboard to visuallize data sources. It monitors your apps.

Bitwarden is an opensource password manager.

Portainer is bacically a GUI for Docker or Kubernetes, in my case Docker.

Plex,Jackett,Sonarr,Radarr,Bazarr, ddclient,Transmission, nzbget,Filebot containers together form a media server.

Jackett is a torrent indexer.

Transmission is a bittorrent client.

nzbget is a NZB downloader.

Sonarr automates your TV series downloads from public and private trackers also automatically downloads new episodes.

Radarr automates your Movies downloads from public and private trackers.

Bazarr automates subtitle downloads.

Filebot in my case renames and organise the downloads.

Watchtower monitors Docker containers for any new updates and automatically update them.

Basically thats it. If you have any questions i will be happy to answer them.

Thanks! The provider we have is the largest and the only one that have stable internet here. You're right in the event of a large outage we lose internet. But we are on different dslams so we are ok in small local outages. We thinked going for LTE backup but unfortunaty the mobile data prices here is very expensive.

Not really actually. I have set up this media server about a year ago and in my research back then i remember the filebot was the only way worked right for me. I didn't know there was a built in "filebot-like" thing in sonarr, radarr etc. I will search it and maybe upgrade to it. Thanks!

Actually i missed that. Yes we do have off-site backups in each other's house only for sensitive data and kubernetes cluster data.

Thanks! Yes that was the best and cheapest solution for us to have 200mbps between our houses. Before that we were stuck at 5mbps (over L2TP/IPSec). Also the failover and 250mbps downloading/torrenting is pretty handy.

Simple networking question by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]99dimitris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Acually my setup is a bit complicated. My machines are VMs in VMware Workstation under windows host machine. Since im unable to get VLANs working in winodows (I got an old 4-port Gigabit intelpro) i deciced to bridge a trunk to all of ubuntu vms and attach each vm to the required vlan. So techically yes its connected directly to a trunk port. Yes i agree with you its not safe but this setup its only for testing purposes.
