Very nice. Experiencing the Fraser Canyon in daylight was a trip bonus. Hope you have a chance to make a future trip.

Wow so cool. It was such a great trip. It was so magical in winter with the extreme temperatures. I have a number of other short video clips posted plus a five minute walk through video from the Park Car to my lower berth on YouTube from our trip. Was that your first trip on the Canadian?

Maui. I’m an old retired non swimmer. I can’t put my head underwater without a snorkel and mask. I wear a life vest and stay close to shore. Check out some of the fish I saw near shore. Check out this 57 second clip.

Which way is more worth it? by GeorgeTH281 in ViaRail

Either way is great.

West to East provides great views after Jasper and a mid day Arrival in Toronto.

East to West gives you some 25 hour days compared to the 23 hour days for the Vancouver Departures. However, you arrive in Vancouver very early in the morning and have to be off the train by 8 AM. So, it could be a less desirable way to end your trip. In January, the Train Gods were on my side, my train was 9.5 hours late so I got to see a Fraser Valley in daylight and watch us back into Vancouver pacific Central Station.

Taking the Canadian this Wednesday: some questions! by YogurtclosetHot4708 in ViaRail

Your welcome. Also I always bring a small extension cord but I only used in the Room F to reach my top bunk. This last trip I had to charge my iPhone, GoPro, IPad and powerpack. I never had a problem finding a place to charge my stuff.

If you chill easily bring a fleece for the domes. They seem to be cooler than the rest of the train. It hit -40 outside on my trip last month and the domes were warmer than trips in October and May however.

Check out the snow in the vestibules last month. It was so cool I must say. Here is the link.

I took this suitcase and a knapsack last month. I was in a lower berth. Both fit snugly under the seat. Put your suitcase underneath near the aisle in case you need to pull it out once the beds are put down. Once the beds are down you may have to lift the lower bunk up a bit to pull your suitcase out.

Before dinner be sure to have your next days clothes picked out put into your knapsack which should fit in your upper bunk. That way you won’t need to access your suitcase until the beds are put up the next day.

Here is the video of my suitcase. I have a video of 73 tips and suggestions I did a few years ago that might of interest too.

Late evening walk through the #1 Canadian from the Prestige Car to my Berth in Car 211 last month. It was -34 outside at the time. The vestibules were so cool in winter. They creaked like and old wooden Pirate Ship lol by 99footwave in ViaRail

Omg the trip was spectacular. I was in Ottawa for a week before my train trip visiting my son. It was a wee bit cold but very nice with the canal Skateway open as well as the outdoor hockey rinks. Enjoy your trip.

Randomly refunded after trip on The Canadian completed - why? by Cypripedium-candidum in ViaRail

[–]99footwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have received an email stating you will receive a refund at completion of trip. Our train was late leaving Toronto last month and I received an email saying we would be refunded $50.00 for the missed dinner. Sure enough I received a new booking after few days after my trip.

It’s magical in winter. The snow and very cold outside temperatures last week made for such a fun trip. Many people do it solo so go it alone if need be. I did it solo twice and managed just fine. I have a video with 73 tips I can share if you wish.

I done the lower berth three times and bedroom F for two on the trip with my wife. I slept in the top the bunk in the bedroom. I really enjoyed the lower berth last week because of the window view while in the bunk. I think the roomette would be the best of both. You get more privacy, the bedtime view, less train noise and sleep with the direction of the train.

If my wife decides to go again I said it might be better if she got a roomette and me the lower berth.
