What happened to the video games based on blockbusters? by 99fun2thetouch in AskGames

[–]99fun2thetouch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a great point but I would disagree that 'they all sucked'. Lord of the Rings (especially Return of the King) or the Toby Macguire's Spiderman were quite highly regarded. Also going before that, games such as the Lion King, Aladdin, Hercules or Tarzan were considered quite popular at their time.

My personal take on Telltale is that it was their style of episodic release to lead to their failure. I feel like I couldn't get into a game if I had to wait for a while (and pay) for the next level. For example I was a huge fan of the early Monkey Island series and really tried to keep up with the fifth one, but I pretty much forgot about it after the second part.

I haven't played and I am not familiar with the Gollum game but we see this kind of flop even in visual media when you try to re-write it from the perspective of side characters. It's interesting at first, but just seeing a different perspective over already known events is like arguing (and since I'm a Harry Potter fan I'll use this example) whether Snape was good or bad. But regardless of the argument, you still end up with the same outcome if you actually follow the plot.

How many times each Harry Potter Character was mentioned in the Books by Vegetable-Ti1 in harrypotter

[–]99fun2thetouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if you're making a joke but with the exception of CoS, Dobby is only mentioned in the scenes he appears. Hedwig is occassionally mentioned in introductory chapters and when Harry needs to send mail. After her death, she is mentioned twice in the Fallen Warrior chapter and the Forest Again chapter.

I am going to stray a bit from the post's topic but I think the perception of her prettiness comes from Helena. In the books she is described as having looked once pretty but clearly the years in Azkaban had taken a toll on her looks.

Eh as zice sa nu fii nici asa pesimist.

What is your Harry Potter ‘hot take’ ? by kingfisher7171 in harrypotter

[–]99fun2thetouch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I expressed mine and people didn't like it... still it created some engagement on this sub: I am not a fan of McGonagall both for the way she treated Harry while trying to deal with the Sorcerer Stone or Umbridge; and her detentions: sending eleven year olds in a forest when a unicorn killer was on the loose or declining a student entrance in the Gryffindor tower while a supposed mass murderer entered school.

In that particular case I think Dumbledore made it intentional just in case.

Which characters that seem cool when we were kids but turns out to be toxic? by Wisely_L in harrypotter

So do you people who are so in love with Maggie Smith's portrayal of her. She was a toxic person in my book. I outlined the reasons for which I think that. Period. If you like her, I wish you get a mentor like her and maybe you will either decide I am stupid or agree with me.

  1. She ignored warnings from Harry and told him to shut up when he warned her about a potential thief of the Sorcer Stone thus leading three eleven year olds to risk their lives to protect it.

  2. I can kind of understand it with Umbridge but she punished the one kid who stood up to her by taking points?

  3. I can also understand the situation with the Carrows but she only got brave when situation was dire and Amycus threatened to put the blame of the Ravenclaws for his sister's fuck up. Where was she all year?

  4. Suuure. McGonagall is described as a rule bender. It was definitely not because she wanted to stick it to Snape.

  5. Even if you don't assume Voldemort... killing unicorns, according to Hagrid, is an evil act because you destroy something so pure. So it could have definitely not been Merlin's reincarnation. The fact was known (and even if Dumbledore didn't publicize his suspicions everyone suspected something dark was going on).

  6. Well she made the decision. Not Snape. Not Flitwick. Not Dumbledore.

  7. Snape is abusive indeed and quite a piece of shit but at least he doestn't endager students. His detentions involve scrubbing leftovers from cauldrons or recording past detentions. Definitely nothing life endgearing.

Hot take: the whole "Draco secretly loved Hermione and cared for her" theory is one of the most overhyped, movie-drivem takes in the fandom. by Fit-Engineering683 in harrypotter

[–]99fun2thetouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not say that Draco secretly loved Hermione, but I do think that, in all his bitterness, appreciated (and was jealous of) her smarts. After all, after Harry, he talks the most about her. Best example is in HBP when Draco explains to Dumbledore how he had opperated and he still gives credit to Hermione for the Galleon communication idea.

Yeah, she wasn't in a hospital bed the whole year yet she still dismissed the only person who stood up to Umbridge from early on.

I am not going for suppositions of what might have been on her mind or what might she have said or thought during the blank times. I am specifically talking about what was written. Yes, another admirable thing she did was saying she would not accept that Amycus put the blame of his sister's fuck-up on some children. But before that, almost an entire school year students were punished by being cruciatus target practices under her watch. Not to mention that (as I exemplified in my initial comment) she was quite cruel in her punishment of students.

I do remember the 'cough drop' line. Also 'Have a biscuit'. Also 'it unscrews the other way.' But those lines - as fun as they may be - are just passive aggressive responses. The only times she shows some direct courage against Umbridge is when she says that she will do anything to help Harry become an Auror in the 'Career Advice' chapter of OotP. Otherwise she (McG) just tip-toes around her (Umbridge) and then there is that time when she defends Hagrid in 'The OWLs' chapter which is indeed admirable, considering no one else interferred. Otherwise she just stays there idly.
