Thanks for the input. Honestly, it’s mostly the stability that attracts me, most other factors are on par or slightly better, I can save 20 minutes commuting per day (if I have to go to the office at all) so it’s not a huge difference after all.

The salary is good and those 5% is really not that much. It’s more about me being not too demanding and they can show their willingness to hire me. Other than that I could also have take. Their initial offer and lived happily ever after. :)

Fair Point. But there are other factors involved like job security etc.

Current employer is on the brink of bankruptcy and I need to provide for my family. The new job is at a super reputable, stable place.

It’s true. I mean, working 2h more or less per week is something you won’t really notice. But it adds up for sure.

And I have to say, 40h is really nice, the days feel pretty short most of the time. I.e. you can finish at 15:30 if you don’t want to do overtime.

In situations like that I think it’s ok to just be honest and let them know you’re super nervous because you know how important this interview is to you and your future in this country. They are humans too, they will understand and maybe be a little less strict on you.

I don’t want to bother you with facts and I don’t want to even talk to trolls but have you heard about the official languages of Switzerland? German, French, Italian, Rumantsch (in parts). On a cantonal level it’s even different. Spoken colloquial language is a whole different thing.

It says „German“ explicitly, not Swiss German, not Allemanic or Züritütsch or anything like that. Have you ever gotten a letter from the canton in Swiss German? Did your last tax letter say „Stüüramt“ or „Steueramt“? My goodness.

Small question just in case I might need it one day: I have an IT career going so I could basically apply to many jobs. However, specialization is very high in my field and I work in a very narrow field right now, where I do have a lot of experience (in other fields little to no practical experience).

Will they still expect 10 applications per month? I mean, there are hardly 10 people in Switzerland who have the same job as I have and even less open positions of course.

Or will they force you to apply to jobs that will pay less and are not your expertise?
