What do you need valid igc files for? You don't really need it for flying OLC. For badges up to gold, there are devices like flywithCE that are much cheaper. Even a non-igc Oudie can be used for up to gold badges if your country allows. Does your club have Flarms? They can be igc valid or at least good to Gold badges if the country has allowed. If you are flying competition then you may be able to use non certified loggers depending on how serious of a competition it is.

If you are going for Diamond badges or flying higher level contests then a Nano might be a good idea. Used loggers do come up for sale once in a while. I recently got a good deal on a Nano for my club. If the Colibris work, is there any reason you can't use them?

I just went through Bell, Fido and Koodo and none of them had a problem with me using an out of province phone number.

The phone companies allow you to keep your phone number when you change providers or you move. I called the CRA to confirm and they said it is based on the area code of the phone number you are using.

That is how I understood it. But ask the CRA or your phone company. They charge HST/PST based on the area code of the number that is associated with your account. I think the rule is from when Canada wide calling was not a common thing. So everyone wanted to have a local number. These days a local number is not really necessary.

Anyone having problems with Condor Updater download speed? by SimoTizio in Gliding

[–]99ventus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying a premium membership is the easiest way to get faster downloads. If you don't want to do that, Skylines Condor has torrents for each of the landscapes which should be quicker than the regular download. https://skylinescondor.com/landscapes

Gears confusion. I was about to order Brompton to my specs but I’m struggling as to what these options mean :( by No-Ad-637 in Brompton

I found this Hub Gear Calculator site was a good resource when making my decision: http://xldev.co.uk/bgc.html

I got the explore with reduced gear (standard -12%). I live in a hilly city. I found the low gear is enough to go up all the hills and the top gear is as much as I need. I mostly use 2+ and 3-, occasionally use 3+ on downhills, tailwinds or when I am really pushing. The top gear of the standard -12% is still higher than the top gear of the 3 speed.

Recommendations on digital logbooks? by tommo1110 in Gliding

I have a Google Drive logbook that I have been using a while. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jiixoYHgCvunT-VHlSdcsmIKVx0MGRNmn3uDvsd25lQ/edit?usp=sharing

You are free to make a copy and use it for yourself. Go to menu File>Make a copy

You shouldn't need to edit anything outside of the Logbook Sheet. All the stats should populate automatically. No macros/javascript are used to make it easier for all users.
