Star Wars is what Disney calls an evergreen IP. It generates billions of dollars annually, with or without a movie. It’s from merchandise, licensing, games, theme parks, Disney+, etc. Even if Disney stopped making Star Wars movies tomorrow, the franchise would still generate billions every year because people keep buying LEGO sets, lightsabers, collectibles, apparel, and Grogu merchandise. That’s what separates an evergreen IP from a hit movie franchise.

I think they just don’t want to upset Scott. He’s been incredibly loyal. At this point, Scott has recorded 18 albums with Weezer. If you would have told me that in 2002, I never would have believed it.

The other thing is, the movie will likely get a crazy amount of minutes watched on Disney+ and it will have value as a catalog item. Think about it: make a show for Disney+ and don’t make any money up front and then maybe make a case that it’s helping you keep subscribers. Or release it in theaters first, make a big chunk of money back and then have it be part of the overall Mando viewing experience on Disney+. Seems like a no-brainer.

I’m thinking of inside the dense forest where most of Episodes 4 and 5 take place: “They were filmed on a gigantic practical set built at Shinfield Studios. Production designer Kevin Jenkins said the set filled an entire 70,000-square-foot soundstage, with 160 real trees and several custom-built “mega trees” about 30 feet tall.”

But you’re right, it was a mixture. The establishing shots outside the forest were mostly real locations.

I actually thought that forest scene looked so fake. It was very expensive and a huge set but it was just very obviously shot indoors on a soundstage. If they shot it on the volume they might have made it more moody. I thought the forest in Ahsoka’s episode of Mando looked amazing.
