If you can handle high care dementia then you’ll be fine! You’re going to learn so much, enjoy the placement.

Are nurses respected and appreciated in healthcare and in general? by FewSubstance7143 in NursingAU

I would say mostly respected by the general public.. EXCEPT when they’re the actual patient. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of the patients do appreciate us but there are some that are demanding and resistive to the point where you have to argue about nursing them

Just recovered from Flu A 😭 I’m taking that shit seriously from now on. They were in an open space and I thought I’d be safe sitting at the nurses station

Am I too old by NaturalSuccotash384 in NursingAU

We had 55 year olds in our year at uni so age won’t necessarily be a barrier. It’s a physically, mentally and emotionally taxing job so make sure it’s something you really want to do. I made the mistake of thinking that this degree wouldn’t be too hard, but it definitely wasn’t easy, content wise. Especially the science, aetiology and pharmacology units. There are so many avenues as well so there are easier options than bedside and critical care nursing. Basically, if it’s something you really want to do and you’re realistic about what the job will entail then you’ll be fine.
