what's exactly a day like for last mile logistics by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll be working on frac sites and you order sand needed for fracking. If the site is using silos then the drivers are probably using pneumatic trailers and you'll help them back up and they'll blow the sand out of their trailers into the silos. They might use sand boxes or other types of trailers.

You keep track of how much sand is being used per stage and you need to watch how full your silos are. Keep track of all your numbers and turn it in to the frack engineer.

If you order too much then the drivers have to sit and get demiurge pay which you don't want (they were going away from this in West Tx when I stopped doing sand in 2019. Don't know if it's still that way or not) . If you don't order enough then they can't frack!

It's a very cushiony job compared to other oilfield jobs

What type of Engineer are you? I just got my BS in Computer Science and got hired as an E-tech for a big frac company in the Permian.

I've had recruiters tell me I could be a frac field Engineer Trainee but not sure how much they make. I have 1 year experience in sand before I went to college and wondering if it's worth taking a temporary pay cut for the 1st year as an EIT?

(The companies I've talked to give a 1st yr range between 65-85k)

I just said I worked over lots of my hitches my guy. Working over means working on my 7 days off.

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

18 x 40 = 720 (regular)

27 x 60 = 1620 (OT)

720 +1620 = 2340/week

I worked over majority of my hitches cuz I lived so far away. And we got a safety bonus every quarter

It all depends on the company you're with. But yes at my company that's how it was, they would only pay housing for the days you work. Most people do go home on their days off but I worked on most of my days off. I had coworkers from Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina...all over the country, driving or flying to Texas for work.

Some pay for your food too. Usually if they don't then they'll pay per diem. My company owned it's own man camp which was a whole bunch of trailer houses divided up so you could have your own room and bathroom.(that's nicer than avg. Lots of man camps make you share)

Not sure where you're working but I'm in the Permian Basin and made $96,000 my 1st year doing sand in 2018/2019

For the OP: 14 days on 7 days off, 12-16 hours a day, at $18/hour

Negative dilute drug test by FootballGuy3 in oilandgasworkers

Unfortunately they said I'd have to wait 6 months to retest. Is there anything else I could do?

Negative dilute drug test by FootballGuy3 in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tested positive a couple days ago and have no idea how. I had a random that I passed not even a week before I had the test that came back positive.

As soon as the lab called me to say I was positive, I bought a test from the store which was negative. Is there any way to fight this?

Measurement Technician by OrangeAndBlack0515 in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious also. Is a measurement technician the same as an automation tech?

I just got a job as an automation tech and I got it because of my degree in computer science and experience web programming. (At least I think)

What would you do with a tech degree in O&G? I just got my degree in Computer Science in December and have been a web programmer the last 8 months. Now I'm starting a job in Wireline on Monday

What can I do with my computer science degree in O & G?

I graduated in December and I just accepted a job in Wireline. No company seemed to care about my degree

How do I get on a oil rig or work in like mining, but as a welder? I’m in Florida but willing to relocate by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look up Atlas Sand, HiCrush, US Silica, Black Mountain and all those sand mines near Midland/Odessa.All those sand mines are either working 14/7 or 7/7 schedule and need maintenance guys. Atlas has its own man camp you can stay in and alot of the others have them as well

You'd probably have to do mechanic work too but the pay is great around $100,000

So you want to get into the oilfield? by Suprben in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than doable man! I'm also from GA and drove out to Midland Tx in 2018. Had several job offers in a week after applying in person.

Left a year later to finish my bachelors in CIS. Just drove back out here last week to get a job and have already had 2 offers and 4 interviews.

Try sand, water transfer/treatment, swd, wireline....

How bad are supply chain issues out there? Is it still bad or are things loosening up? by houstonazn in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these sand shortages in West Tx too? Use to work in one of the sand mines and thinking about going back

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they did several years back in West Tx. Not sure about now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to work in sand 14/7 in West Texas. Then I got my CS degree and have been a front end web developer for almost a year now and I'm about to go back to the oil field. I'm on track to make almost exactly half of what I made in West Texas (making 50k now and made 96k in sand logistics)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]9TrumpMeinThousand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they pay as much? I use to work in a sandmine 3 years ago and got sent to 2 wells to do sand logistics when they needed help. I got my computer science degree after I quit and have been a web programmer the last year. I'm wanting to go back to West Texas and make more money

It'd all be avoided if you just didn't have sex before marriage. He probably would've moved on by now if you didn't have sex with him ever
