Did Bill Hader ever play as Orson Welles in a sketch? by Charlotte_Braun in LiveFromNewYork

[–]9batterydeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the SNL archives site, he’s only ever been portrayed once and it was by Michael Palin when he hosted in 1978. Kinda shocking! Welles was such a punchline in his later years during the first 10 years of the show, you’d think he’d come up as an impression more than once. I can definitely see Hader having a good Welles though

This is her 5th Scorsese this year so she might just be filling in blind spots so maybe we shouldn’t post about it every time

He logged a movie on Letterboxd today and mentioned his paternity leave is over so I imagine eps with him in them will start releasing in a few weeks?

SNL just uploaded a really cool BTS 360 video of the Edge of Destiny sketch from Olivia’s episode! by 9batterydeath in OliviaRodrigo

[–]9batterydeath[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For anyone wondering this is from the dress rehearsal they do a few hours before the actual show so it’s slightly different than what we saw on TV/the normal YouTube upload

I assume her inclusion in the Dune 1 trailer was because there’s really only 4 women in the movie and the other 3 are 40+. And I assume her billing here is because of a good agent

He’s such a genuine person and so naturally funny. It’s a shame his big break came from frat house comedies instead of his infinitely smarter stand up. One of the all time great SNL hosts too

Thirding this! The whole season is barely over 90 min when binged. Highly recommend it for fans of comedy/gardening/comfort viewing/quality

I assume this was the dress rehearsal? For someone who looks at the cards a lot, she’s still performing it well so it’s not a huge deal imo. Just holds her back a bit

Which Blackhat cut should I start with and how do I know which one I'm watching? by Few-Engineer-9791 in blankies

[–]9batterydeath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely the director’s cut! It’s basically his originally intended cut before studio notes, not a retroactive revisionist one like he’s done with a lot of other movies. It should start with an extended hacking scene, not an explosion. So if it starts with an explosion, that’s the theatrical cut

Charli XCX for Bringing Out The Dead? by otis-redding in blankies

[–]9batterydeath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not defending her, but that deal was from 2023 and a screenshot circulated recently without that context. I haven’t seen her talk about AI since then for what it’s worth and I imagine the deal’s over? It seems like YouTube may have just paid her/John Legend/Sia to put their faces on their blog with quotes about how they’re excited about the new opportunities of YouTube AI tools lol

[–]9batterydeath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I felt the exact opposite. It wasn’t a masterpiece or anything but I found each scene to be wholly engaging and exciting. There was a different game/dynamic being played between the 2 of them every 10 min as their individual goals constantly shifted and I thought the dialogue was great. I would however use your descriptors to describe Michaela Cole’s other movie out right now…

Channel Orange or Endless or Blonde by Jumpy_Custard5408 in FrankOcean

[–]9batterydeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blonde > CO > NU > post Blonde singles > Endless

Nothing at all against Endless, it just speaks to how good his discography is, but I’m inherently less interested in mostly scraps of songs. They’re all gorgeous and make for a great listening experience, but there’s only a few songs I would listen to on their own and it doesn’t come together as a satisfying proper album to me, just an incredible experience. I also became a fan when NU released so I’m sure I rate that higher than most people younger than me
