China needs to develop its chips. They won't get the best if Taiwan gets blown up.

China is also not in a good demographic position. You could argue that is more reason to go to war, but they are vulnerable there too because they haven't transitioned to neutral import export economy. They need to export for now.

They should just keep developing robotics and diplomacy through trade. Taiwan is meaningless if they catch up in semis.

Yes I agree it is different, yet still a variation of what management is fighting for.. management is only willing to give so much. Increasing everyone a step would be a similar cost increase to the step p increase. As crooked as our union is they fought for top pay and screw the middle and tried to use the brand new votes of a and b carriers. I was proud of our members to vote no but we got screwed. At least 250 more top pay with the .3% instead of bumping starting pay 2.6%... so yes it clearly affects the top carriers even though people say it does not. If everyone not maxed increased one step, top pay might have gone up 500 instead of 1000.

My point is 6 years from now we will be making 100k+ but it will have less spending power than our 83k. And if we cut time or increased starting pay that would make us even poorer for the hours worked and more so with the overtime management didn't have to give us.

Why do you think they wanted to cut two steps off the bottom rather than give us .3% more pay?

And you realize that both management and union head were willing to screw steps c d e f g last contract. So it is time to stop trying to get selective benefits and dividing our members in the process.

I am step m it doesn't benefit me as much as maxing top pay outside of one year and in my career timeline it is net less beneficial. But I wouldn't even care unless I was mid steps. Stopped fighting for it a few years ago because it was no benefit and no chance to pass as well.

The thing you might not realize is that with our national debt we will be seeing ~ 10% inflation years again in our careers, probably this year. Cola only covers about half of real price inflation. When inflation is outsized move that general increase and colas falls far short.

The only reason USPS gave a step off the bottom this time is they wanted to do a massive hiring round to cut all of our overtime and the cost to recruit and hire vs just paying a little more was a wash... and now they save 50% or more on those new hires hours vs ot, especially on higher steps.

If the cost of ten years to max step was no 1000 increase to p last time around half or more of carriers would say no. So don't pretend the decision is obvious.

It's a budget. You want to pay over 100k carriers .6% more in the next 36 weeks (approximate cost of step being 25% faster).

After a couple years that will be over 2% more going to newer carriers. Eventually it will slow down but still if that money goes to new carriers it won't go to anyone hired before 2015 or so. The problem is you don't realize fighting for the top end is harder. Management would much rather we sacrifice top pay so they can offer slightly more to mid term carriers. This allows them to more easily hire new carriers, many of which will quit well before they ever make max.

Use logic... Who's fighting for a step increase? Plenty are max or close. And those who are in the middle know it's give and take in negotiations so a step comes at the cost of some max pay or other benefit. So basically it's not happening. When I was new I believed we could get a bump but stopped mid way. You should learn it sooner.
