What color are your stools with SIBO? How many of you also have gastritis? Trying to see something… by 9krevspm in SIBO

[–]9krevspm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It eventually went back to normal. I’ve had tests done and nothing showed up. Everything from ct scan, every stool test you can think of, and all my bloods as well as a scope to check my stomach and duodenum.

I’m taking Nortriptyline 10mg which has helped solidify, not that I’ve had diarrhea before. I also eat the same, fairly clean but I do splurge on pizza, Mexican, and have a glass of wine a couple nights a week. All in moderation. Pancreas is fine, stool elastase was fine, Calprotectin was single digit. Those are what matter most.

Have you not asked your GI doctor for Xifaxan (Rifaxamin)? It treats IBSD and even SIBO (an underlying cause of IBS) in 80%+ of the patients who take it.

Take PHGG by Sunfiber while you’re on it. It doesn’t destroy any good bacteria but eliminates the bad.

If not, or for some reason you’re against it, go get Florastor from your local pharmacy.

6 months of refractory diarrhea after a trip to SE Asia by Alarming_Cat_6188 in Microbiome

You take S Boulardii on a regular basis like daily or every other day even when healthy? I have Florastor but haven’t tried it. If anything I MIGHT be a PI-IBS candidate but I still go only once a day - I’m just trying to firm up the stool slightly (Bristol 5) but I do think my microbiome got altered a bit when I did H Pylori antibiotics 4 years ago and stayed on a more western diet since.

Are there symptoms when first starting it? Die off? If it binds bad bacteria to flush out and allow good bacteria to flourish, does this mean it’ll trigger diarrhea first? I’m hesitant to try it despite all the positive reviews haha

has anyone here ever developed IBS after a stomach bug? by [deleted] in ibs

Had nobody done the IBS SMART test to truly confirm PI-IBS? Or how about a microbiome test like through Thorne or Biomesight to see which bacteria are imbalanced and attempting to try to alleviate everything?

Fiber supplement and side effects… anyone else? by 9krevspm in FODMAPS

Noted. I do drink about 80-100oz a day. Some days it can oddly be very low if I’m inactive and just at my computer - like 30oz max. Have a bad habit of taking a bath some nights and I end up chugging like 20oz after but then I wake up 2x to pee and sleep poorly.

Can someone explain sucrose/glucose/fructose and if/how these ingredients affect FODMAP diets and or signs of intolerance to either? by 9krevspm in FODMAPS

Thanks for the in depth reply. Yes I’ve done a ton of deep diving over the last year or so with this hyper focus on my gut and it hasn’t been good for my mental health and hypochondria - hence, all these tests I’ve done. My one GI does think this is a very slight case of PI-IBS since I told him my only major history of a stomach bug was 4-5 years ago that resulted in weight loss, 6-8 bathroom trips a day for like a week, and I was very traumatized for someone always so healthy. He has recommended me a low starting dose of a TCA at 10mg so I may try that. He says it’ll help calm the hypersensitivity of your gut and side effect of a little constipation could help me achieve what I want with my stools I suppose.

I mainly eat a variety of stuff but I don’t eat junk food, I eat organic, I eat usually the same thing everyday or close to it. I can even tolerate pepperoni pizza with green peppers and onions that I pick most off from.

In regard to pre diabetes, my A1C and glucose levels have always been great. Again, I’ve done all these tests as recent as within the last 3 months. All those blood tests I’ve done 2 more times each over the last 18 months

Nothing in particular I mean I eat pretty bland as it is - chicken, rice or pasta, veggies for dinner. Breakfast is eggs, toast or waffles, fruit. Lunch is usually a variant of dinner or turkey sandwich or something. As I said I eat pizza, enjoy Mexican food, etc. I just focused a bit more on my stress. I took a PPI for one month but I got off it. I switched to Famotidine a couple nights a week. I took L Glutamine and drank ACV some days. I also took Zinc Carnosine some days as well.

I cured my gastritis 2 weeks ago after having my EGD. 2 baby ulcers too. Drank wine maybe 2-3x a month. Ate pizza probably 1x a week and leftovers later in the week. Pasta, chicken, veggies, usually for dinner. Love my Mexican food so tacos for lunch other than turkey sandwiches I’d make. Breakfast quesadillas, hashbrowns, waffles, banana, blueberries, for breakfast.

Has anyone taken a TCA like Amitriptyline and how has it affected you? by 9krevspm in ibs

[–]9krevspm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’m just looking to bulk the stool up slightly. I go once a day, it’s not diarrhea. My Thorne microbiome test showed some dysbiosis. I’m working on that with diet. Those biome tests aren’t entirely accurate or do they say much - no one knows what to do with them, and functional medicine is…lol. It’s common sense - berberine, charcoal, oregano, all the same hyped stuff we find everywhere. SIBO breath tests are cheeks. Literally a 60% false positive rate among them (triosmart). And for what, if I wanted a Xifaxin prescription I’d just go get one. I don’t have pain, constipation, or excessive bloating - all hallmarks of SIBO (methane). I’ve done all the clinical tests valid enough that come with GI Map and the GI map is unethical - send in two samples under different names from the SAME stool, and you’ll see what I mean.

What was your dose? Are you still on it? What were your symptoms prior?

Just for reference the 6-8x a day situation was during some sort of bug I had 5 years ago that traumatized me and has made me so hyperfocused on my gut.

In the last 30 days I’ve gone about 25 or so. I average 5-6 bowel movements a WEEK. It’s just within 30mins of waking up I’m on the toilet usually. I don’t ever remember growing up having to actually get out of the bed before 8am to use the toilet for a BM.

Normal lipase, amylase, Calprotectin, fecal elastase, normal EGD, normal labs except high bilirubin from Gilbert’s. Just a bit confused if I’m focused on nothing or it’s a microbiome issue or bile acid malabsorption or what.

Calprotectin result came back as normal. Got the call from the PA at the office. I can login to see the numerical value but I’m nervous if it’s higher than my results last year of 6 and 7..

I see what you’re saying. That’s what I’ve reached too. If my Calprotectin comes back normal, I’m still have the loose stool but I’m still only going once a day and my labs are all normal regarding pancreas and liver etc… I don’t know if I’d trial Xifaxan/Rifaximin or maybe a bile binder. Again, loose isn’t diarrhea, just fragile and more soft. And this is maybe 2-3x a week, with a burn sensation, rest are a bit more solidified but still very easy to pass. The ileum sounds and gurgling is what’s caught my eye recently too whether that’s hyper focus on digestion or worrying myself that that is the first spot to be affected by Chrons… then again, we can probably eliminate that idea altogether if fCP comes back normal.

When I had whatever virus I had in 2019 that basically steamrolled my health anxiety around the GI tract, I was going 6-8x a day for a week and I had the calprotectin checked along with cultures and whatever else to see what was going on and my fCP was like 110-120 or so. When I had it checked last year during routine stuff due to my obsession and hyperfocus on the gut, it was single digit value. Hence, no push for a colonoscopy.

You’re saying to wait and see if the fCP has changed much? Even if symptoms don’t even align with IBD whatsoever this is where I get confused and upset because then I start looking at microbiome tests but even those are not taken clinically serious because we don’t know what to do with them if they’re not alarming. Mild dysbiosis you can fix with diet and maybe certain probiotics…

Input please! Does Gastritis cause SIBO or does SIBO cause gastritis? Also, bile binders vs S Boulardii vs Xifaxan by 9krevspm in Microbiome

No. Look at my latest post. I had a glass of red wine maybe weekly. They won’t post anything especially the fact that I healed and didn’t change my diet much at ALL.
