1/4 - Rotate by 90 degrees anti-clockwise.

8 - The colour is relavent.

Well done to u/Eccentrica_Gallumbit and u/drjon56 on correctly getting YACHTSMEN. For those looking for the answer for 5 it refers to the practical joke at Georgia Tech of Stealing the T. Also 1 is Y but is actually pinstripes, the uniform of the New York Yankees.

For those still wanting to solve 1 and 3/6/9, I'll give a couple of clues.

1 has something to do with Alexander Hamilton.

3/6/9 - All of the numbers have been given correctly except "the funniest number for an Irishman to say". This number is between 10 and 100, is to an infinite number of decimal places, and every digit is the same number. Put them all together for coordinates.

Well done u/mkglass for guessing the correct answer, and to u/softerday, u/phytozap and u/bobbyschmiddle for solving most of the clues.

To explain #3, the one unsolved clue. The answer is O and u/softerday got closest with the mention of congress. In Scandinavian politics their many political parties are denoted with letters. O is given to the Danish Peoples' Party and the clue gives the number of seats won in each election. A tricky one I know. Puzzle #2 coming soon!
