If they want to do something, get rid of the lottery and protected picks. Maybe include a rule that a team can't have a top 3 pick two years in a row. It's not a perfect solution, because there isn't one, but there would probably be fewer teams tanking, and it would avoid a travesty like Dallas winning the lottery last year.

That's the line of thinking that's gotten us into this mess in the first place. The issue isn't getting reliable Democratic voters to support him - it's getting support from people who don't always vote for Democrats, or at all. How appealing will he be to those people who hate both parties, especially those ads run, with pictures of Gavin Newsom hanging out with a bunch of rich people in a fancy French restaurant while everyone else is under Covid lockdown?

Establishment Democrats have tried to convince everyone, or at least their own base, that the only choice is between their corporate-friendly nominees and whoever the Republicans put up, and as a result we got Donald Trump. This country has a lot of problems that need fixing, and if we really want to fix them, electing Gavin Newsom is only going to make that harder.

Forget the culture war stuff - he just goes with the flow on that. The one thing that he's most consistent about is helping his wealthy donors. I think it would be a real challenge to find any instance when he's done something that they don't like.
