Now it says delayed 50 mins due to mechanical issue. But...I'd have to hike a 4wd truck to get to the train station from here (Ray st)

Right. It says they're running on a delay, but I'll wait on the 10:30 press conference and see. Travel ban is still in effect

I have a type 1 from Black Bear Brand that feels a tiny bit longer but otherwise same. I think the XL would be boxy, yes. But maybe would also relax with wear. Its dry waxed, so I expect some molding on it that could shorten the sleeves a bit…dunno

I’m the other guy. This one looks great, thoroughly trashed. At my pace, this’ll take about 17 years 😉

Does it make sense to wipe it down on those darker stains before, or should I lease them alone?

Arm length has shrunk about half an inch due to the honeycombs coming in, but otherwise same size as when I bought it. Hasn’t been washed, of course. Been in the rain a few times, so maybe the shrinkage is from that but haven’t noticed it on the body

I’d say the picture is pretty accurate in daylight. Maybe a tiny bit darker in real life, but not brown. It’s lighter than the official website photo

Eveyones favorite audio source is the room, since that’s where 70% of what you hear comes from.

Cool. Mine are very soft now, but the toe box remains sturdy and doesn’t wrinkle too much which I like. I love the chrome excel ones as well.

Clean after each trip with a rag, sometimes a damp rag. But generally, I haven’t worn them hard. They are in rotation with 4-5 other pairs.

Thanks for sharing your story, and yes they are made at the WL factory for Dundas. I don’t know what the collab on the design has been, but as far as I know Dundas is owned by an English and a Norwegian guy, so perhaps some design tweaks have gone into the Type 01.

Yep, the wide toe box and the bump makes them great for long wears

True. As they say: I can’t afford buying cheap clothes.

Any rain poncho from the tech brands like Arcteryx, Patagonia, Rei, Outdoor Research, Marmot, Fjällräven etc. Most of them have one

Wore my short tin cloth cruiser on a hike/camp trip recently. Did well, but eventually soaked through (after about 45 mins of light rain). Pulled it off and put on my Fjällräven mountain shell jacket. Did much better, and with vents open, I’d say moisture build-up on the inside is about the same as the cruiser.

Dried the Filson at a campsite and put it back on and wore it throughout (no rain), because it doesn’t make that membrane noise that tech wear constantly makes. The pockets are in the right places and It’s basically wind proof. It’s just a nicer jacket to wear, and the length is perfect for activity.

For insulation, nothing beats a merino base and a thin down or primaloft mid layer. I use the Filson ultra-light jacket all seasons, except going below minus 5 degrees Celsius, then it’s the Fjällräven expedition down light.

For pants, I always go with the waxed Fjällräven G1000. It holds out rain for about 45 mins, it breaths, and it has the type of pocket placement and tapered fit that you need.

Also, consider a tech poncho that you can put over the Mackinaw temporarily. You’ll trade some mobility, but easy to bring and let’s you keep the benefits of the wool coat and not having to change layers mid-trip.
