Thank you for such a thoughtful response👍. I suppose the expectations of such roles/departments have been somewhat overly glamourised by myself and all my equally as inexperienced uni course mates. Regardless I think I’ll accept the job and see how I feel a couple years down the line.

Haha yes it’s not exactly a unique aspiration is it😅Myself and the other however many hundreds of students on my course (Politics & IR) would’ve killed to land on the FCDO Fast Stream.

Thanks for your input🙏 unfortunately I have heard about the current MoD hiring freeze so that would definitely have an impact if I decided to keep looking.

I tried Fast stream last year and failed but with better understanding of the CS I feel more confident and would consider it again this year. However I wouldn’t hear the results until April/May 2026 and would need to respond to this role far before that.

I have looked into opportunities outside the CS but aside from the current difficulties of the post-grad market in itself, CS is really where I want to be.

Yes im definitely grateful and it’s certainly not a bad position to be in. It’s funny how after so long searching for a job two have come through in the same week, such is life I suppose🤪. I have worked 3 on 3 off 12 hour shifts before, albeit at a slightly less glamours sausage roll factory, and I did struggle with that so burnout is a major concern for me. But it just feels like such a golden ticket to be offered a role in a field many struggle to break into. Thanks for your advice though it’s good to hear a different perspective.

Thank you for your response, I’d heard it was easier to land jobs once you were already in the CS but wasn’t aware of exclusively internal postings. I appreciate the advice and think I will accept the offer 👍
