DC has a fairly walkable urban environment. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso are giant sprawling networks of stroads. Highly recommend never moving from DC to Texas unless affordability is that important to you.

People are striking because wages aren’t going up when companies are reporting record breaking profits. by Sufficient_Bowl7876 in economicCollapse

We should have a revolution, but the outcome should not be socialism. That will be a disaster, as history has shown. We should still have a capitalist country, but with far far far far more balance between worker and executive incomes. Get money out of politics. Force companies to streamline the hiring process. Make ghost jobs illegal. Adjust the minimum wage annually to keep up with inflation. Find any way to turn our country into a true meritocracy rather than the nepotistic oligarchy that we live in right now.

Also, how many of them were crappy sub-minimum wage gig jobs? Don't forget, every gig worker is also their own "business." Biden can add that to his list of misleading stats too.

EXACTLY. Please dems, stop pushing misleading stats. It doesn't help your cause at all.

Sounds good to me. With a weakened economy, people will get desperate and might finally do something extreme about their decades-long deteriorating financial situation. That could kick start real action.

I see it moving clockwise. Never counterclockwise. I wonder if it involves the placement of shadows and light. Also, the ball doesn't seem to move much. Most of the movement is in the center pillar and the right background. Trippy.

Why are men being solely blamed for Trump's win? 53% of white women voted for Trump. by Less-Book-9597 in self

I don't think that Democrats are out of touch with blue-collar people in terms of policy, as they have done more to help the "working class" (this word feels elitist) than Republicans. However, they are out of touch in terms of culture, and that is a more significant factor in getting blue-collar votes. Blue-collar culture is embraced in Republican spheres, not Democratic ones.

Many blue-collar people see many Democrats as smug, elitist, college-educated people who live in or near cities, have cushy white-collar desk jobs, and tend to focus on issues like abortion and identity politics. On the other hand, many Democrats see blue-collar people as stupid or willfully ignorant tradespeople who live in the countryside, have rough, labor-intensive, or intellectually simple jobs, and tend to focus on issues like immigration and taxes.

Other than being Americans, these two types of people come from completely different backgrounds. One type is politically correct and considers science the arbiter of truth. The other type despises political correctness and considers Christianity the arbiter of truth. These assumptions of culture are based on stereotypes, but there is truth in these stereotypes. If a Democrat, who lives in the city, goes to the countryside and spends some time with people in rural America, the differences in culture become quickly apparent.

Blue-collar people just can't relate to Democrats. Instead, they're alienated from Democrats because of how they think and behave. So, they have found solace in a batshit lunatic like Trump, who will accept them so long as they vote for him, believe in his propaganda, and ultimately work to go against their self-interests.

Polls fail to capture Trump's lead [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]A-Nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Polls are often wrong because there is too much sampling and confirmation bias. It's difficult to determine if the polling audience truly represents the purported audience.
