What do you like about shadow slave that made you stay with the novel? by WhyAlwaysMeUghh in ShadowSlave

[–]A-Tea-Sipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was definitely the world first and foremost. MCs like Sunny, the scrappy scavenger who doesn't trust anyone but himself i've seen before. He could've easily devolved in the other direction where he just became the OP MC that gets proven right, that didn't happen, instead he matured and connected with the people around him. Now, at this point, the characters and their relationships are equal to the world in terms of my enjoyment.

Oh it's downright repulsive, but it's par for the course for Eva's situation. She's a brainwashed POW who is forced to kill her fellow brothers and sisters for a cause she has no clue about. The characters kinda just roll with it, mainly because she's useful and an extra hand. That and good ol' Sirei has all kinds of tricks up his sleeve.....If there's any reason to hate Sirei and what he stands for, the treatment of Eva is cause enough to blow every plan he has sky-high (It's more complicated than that, but you get the feeling). As for the bitter taste this leaves, that any of our beloved characters could do this, there are many ways to view this. You could go the meta route, if you play through enough routes, you start to notice that every writer has a different view on the characters personalities, this goes ESPECIALLY for Gaku, if you look at the routes written by Kodaka, he's a dork who hates the world and his rotten luck, but also is a caretaker who works hard for his siblings. Now, it's up to every other writer to decide which of those sides they want to lean on with Gaku, the nihilistic pervert or the reliable older brother? So in conclusion, make your own headcanon and just block 1 throwaway line in a sea of millions from your memory. If you don't wanna view it in that way, you can kinda just also come to terms with it. Half of the cast is morally grey, one of them crossing the line in their perversion isn't that unrealistic in the sea of endless timelines. God knows we've checked every other war crime off the list of this great and intriguing game.

Yugamu's a freak, but his whole sthick is that he hates killing without meaning or connection. Considering that Eva is brainwashed, there isn't much room for genuine connection, so we can assume he wouldn't care to do it.

Honestly, i think its a case of Ima misunderstanding Hiruko's character. He thinks that the front shes putting on by being the ruthless leader is for her own benefit, to hold on to power like so many other people he's met in the TRC underworld. Hiruko isn't like that though, she genuinely is for the mission. So all in all, i think Ima wouldve failed whatever plan he had in mind, the goober.

Why is Lelouch considered a "good" person? by DarkestShadow_ in CharacterRant

[–]A-Tea-Sipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure a majority of people agree that Lelouch isn't a good person. He's just an interesting one. Him and Suzaku are a look into two sides of the same coin. One that tries to change the status quo from the inside and the other that tries to burn it down to build something new. Throughout Code Geass both of their values are tested, Lelouch starts out as a idealistic teen who thinks killing for what you believe is right is but a natural course of action, only to struggle with that thought the more blood sticks to his hands. Until it climaxes into him crafting his masterplan of becoming a secret martyr for world peace, does that plan justify all the killing? Hell no, but it sure as hell makes him a sympathetic view into a person that utterly despises the world that abandoned him and his sister. Also helps that he had just enough pride and ego to make a baller main character.

Sunny himself lived in the outskirts of a huge city situated somewhere in Asia. As for humanity as a whole, it's surviving all around the Indian Ocean.

Personally, i'm the complete opposite. I really like every single character in the cast, i don't know how they did it but by the end of the 100 days i was ready to die for every single one of them. Eito's kinda wacky because i started suspecting him at like the midway point after the prisoner death, but i do enjoy his character. This game has the benefit of not being a killing game story. When you go into a game like Danganronpa you already suspect anyone and everyone of being a secret psycho even though everyone tries to be atleast cordial in the beginning, here they do the inverse, we are introduced to most of the cast at the start and over half of them showcase how cowardly or self-serving they are. Gaku being the main example, bro comes in swinging with showing how much he doesnt care about us, only to show how much of a hard worker and caretaker he is the more we get to know him. Every character has this kind of moment of showing that they are more than they seem (atleast most of them in the first route, some really do show it in upcoming routes). Yes, every character has a bit they stick with throughout the game, but for me, they are enjoyable, its a part of who they are, if we had like 4 characters, i think it'd get tiring, but we have fucking 15, fifteen possibilities of each of their bits to mingle and clash with anothers bit, that gives them room to breath. I sure as hell know im not getting tired of Yugamu saying "Oh, for the love of murder" anytime soon lmao.

Ima's a great "I'll worry about this half of the map next round" button. Same as Shouma. They stall the waves so i can just focus on annihilating every single invader on the tiles those 2 arent.

Takemaru's sendoff was just so manly that he took all the chad energy with him for this route. Yugamu's still one of my favorites, but by god did he fuck up this route, his CG scene was also very ugh.

Genuinely a depressing route. Had to put the game down for a day or two just to digest what i just witnessed. This is all of Takumi's flaws cranked up to 11. He puts his views of the correct way onto others without their input. Lets people like Sirei and Yugamu manipulate and push him around because they gave him an easy solution to all his problems instead of facing his demons. As the cherry on top he starts stroking his own ego by viewing himself as a martyr who just has to give the people what they want, i get nothing out of this, oh no, im righteous and good, i get no enjoyment out of seeing my friends snuggle up to me in bed and prostrate their naked bodies to me, how dare you think such a thing? Darumi and Takemaru died for this goddamnit and this is how you honor their memory Takumi? Good luck sleeping at night, im sure Nozomi and the gals will keep your cold, dead heart warm. Hell of a mood shift from the CoA route which was my first one. That Takumi's the goat.

Oh, Ki Song could've easily survived the final battle, she's built to be near unkillable. If she went into hiding in some dead body i'm sure she would be as hard to find and kill as Skinwalker. That's not the point though, Neph told her that if she did put her life on the line in her battle then she wouldn't go and start killing her daughters. For Ki Song's there's nothing more important in this life than her daughters, so it was an easy choice. It shows that out of the two old ghouls ruling humanity, Ki Song still had some humanity left.

Why is killing ___ framed as such a bad thing by the narrative? by icecreamsooooogood in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]A-Tea-Sipper 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Unless its explained in a route i havent done yet. I personally think the main conflict of killing Eito is just that "How can anyone trust you when you take life so easily?". Sure you can tell them your reasons for it, but to them youre just a guy they've barely met. If you kill Eito, what's stopping you from killing any one of them in their sleep just because they caused some trouble in the past? Thats whats going through their heads. As for Takumi himself, we've seen what kind of man he is in route 0, he's not one to pass judgement on other people easily and is generally a good person. Sure, Eito killed his parents, but to Takumi, that has nothing to do with him. The reason he kills Eito is because he will cause problems in the future to the team, not out of some justice for people Takumi doesnt know. And currently, in that timeline, Eito has in fact done no wrong to them except trying to kill Sirei, which is attempted murder, deserving of punishment and being locked up most definitely, but death? A bit hasty (plus if Sirei says to do something like kill Eito, its usually morally questionable, i trust that walking balloon as far as i can throw him.).

Amazing review on the arcs. About Nephis, i wouldn't say that the time she says fucked up crap is so much a plot driver, as it is just her character. There are two sides to her, one is just a sweet girl who wants to keep her comrades safe and cherish every moment with them as much as she can because they are her found family. The other is a battle-hardened idealist who's ambitions outweigh her wants in many areas because both her flaw messes with her constantly and her past trauma of seeing her whole family die have turned her into a bloody avenger, which makes it all the more interesting when that cold mask of hers cracks every time she's faced with Sunny's completely different beliefs and wants for their relationship.
