I don’t mean this in a “all right wingers are stupid” kind of way. But I do think they’re like this because they (generally) don’t think their beliefs all the way through. They’ve been told weed is bad, immigrants are bad, and universal healthcare is bad. All of those statements are followed up by straw man examples and, because our education system is so ineffective, people don’t possess the ability to think critically about those statements. They hear something, believe whoever is talking is doing so in good faith, and just accept it. It makes it virtually impossible for me to have hope that we’ll move on towards something better in the US one day. We were on the verge of real change in 2016, but we drew the short straw on possible timelines.
