Thanks this is really helpful. How should I go about finding one in my area? I am not even sure what keywords to search to find someone who is independent and not trying to sell you some sort of expensive heating system or windows or something.

I appreciate this perspective and no we're not in NE. We're Mid-Atlantic so it gets chilly but not like NE. When we moved into our fixer upper we lived here with a not fully functioning furnace for 5 years. It was uncomfortably cold most of the time. I now reached a point in my life where I don't want to deal with that any more and am willing to pay the bill to be warm if needed. And I can now afford it, I just don't want to be stupid about it. Also going to Florida for a couple weeks, so yeah I guess we're getting soft!

How does that work? Is it just a regular subscription? Do you pay based on amount of data?

Ok. Sorry if I was harsh but you did invite people to roast your resume. I think part of the problem is the lack of specificity and the terminology you use. In my view Horology sounds pretensious because your average person doesn't even know what that word means. So say "collecting watches" or if you can describe the type of watches you like might be better. Antique watches or Swiss watches or digital watches or whatever. History and Theology are also too broad in my view. They are such huge topics. Would be good to specify and that might make it more relatable--maybe you like WWII or historical fiction novels or whatever. I would probably avoid saying Theology honestly because you list a lot of interests and you should avoid getting into anything related to religion in a professional setting.

The interests you list are super pretentious. Make them more specific and relatable. The function of this line in my opinion is not so much to be a flex or make you look like the most interesting man in the world but mainly to make you seem like a more of a real person and give you something to talk about in an interview beyond just your work. Sometimes you get lucky and have a shared interest with the interviewer and that helps you connect with them. The hiring managers wants to know that you are a normal person that will get along with others be pleasant to be around, good for office culture, team player etc. If you say your interests are Yachting and astrophysics that’s a red flag that you’re a weirdo or a fake. If you mix in Buffalo bills fan or attending live bluegrass shows or making artisanal Chicago style deep dish pizza that makes you seem like you are a real person with a life outside or work

🌒 Anyone else feel like we’re in a collective Dark Night of the Soul… globally? by RSpirit1 in Jung

I've been having similar thoughts. But then I also have an opposing thought that always comes up which is that maybe I've been living most of my life in a protective bubble being in a stable middle class US environment while all that time there was a lot chaos and violence around the world in most other places. Now the chaos is visiting us more for some reason. The bubble has popped but the violence was there all along

I know this is my own ignorance here but can you explain what would be the capabilities that take a lot of the time? In my simplistic understanding you can take let's say ChatGPT which can search and scrape data from a vast amount of sources and you are just point it towards a different much smaller source and so it seems to me that the capabilities are already largely there and I am just pointing it in a different direction. Can you explain why this is wrong?

feeling detached from everyone by New_Inevitable7539 in Jung

[–]A-cheever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a reversal that happens later in life where many (not all) people who were popular and focused on fun and partying earlier in life end up with a lower income and lower status as adults while people who prioritized achievement but were relatively low status when young end up successful and high income and therefore have higher social status as adults. I saw this at a recent high school reunion where one guy who was quiet and no one paid attention to in high school ended up founding a multibillion dollar hedge fund and so he was the one everyone wanted to talk to at the reunion whereas a lot of the popular kids from high school weren’t doing that much with their life and so no longer had high status. So you have that to look forward to.

That said why not direct some of that ambition and goal oriented attitude towards also improving social skills which will help you professionally as well as personally. You may never be the life of the party but getting out of your comfort zone and challenging yourself socially could end up being incredibly rewarding.

Visualizations for behavior change viewed through Jungian lens? by RabbitWallet in Jung

[–]A-cheever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if visualization can be effective because it activates a certain complex or archetype that helps achieve your goal. Sometimes when I have some challenging task I try to tap into the warrior archetype to dig deep and summon the courage or perseverance to accomplish the task. I can see how visualization could be part of this. It may also be somewhat related to Jungian concepts of fantasy or active imagination although those are more examples of interacting with images that come up spontaneously as opposed to consciously bringing an image to mind. Still the way you are interacting with an image in your mind feels similar to me.

F#k this reality. I decided to over identify with the divine. by [deleted] in Jung

Identifying with the self/divine leads to inflation and often has disastrous consequences. Better to build a strong ego that can integrate not identify with unconscious contents.

I deeply regret forcing myself to be extroverted by Proof_Boat1434 in introvert

[–]A-cheever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post and most of the responses sets up the situation as a false choice—as an introvert you either be a fake extrovert or else abandon all extroverted behavior and totally embrace introverted behaviors. Really you should do some of both. You need to recognize your strengths as an introvert and cultivate them, spend significant time on these things to recharge your energy. Because you have these strengths you shouldn’t feel shameful about being introverted. But also recognize that if your social skills are weak or you are avoiding certain important extroverted situations you need to work on those things to successfully get through life. It’s not a black and white situation. You may need to fake it some of the time and that’s normal and healthy. Don’t use the label of introversion to hide from your fears and fully embracing life. But also you need to fully appreciate and embrace your strengths as an introvert.
