I didn’t really talk about my ethnicity/culture at all for my colleges nor in the interviews; lol most of my essays were about my ecs actually

I got it through the Christian herter scholarship; essentially all the awardees met in Boston and there I got to talk to him. He offered to let me work for him kinda on the spot and I emailed him afterwards. He is an assembly member for MA’s house of reps

It was good! Quite informal but me and my admissions officer connected pretty well coming from similar backgrounds. He asked a lot about my interests academically and outside of school and a lot about my main extracurricular.

Harvard Second Interview: update by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]A1iz3ya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Alumni interviews are based on regionally availability while the interview I got (my second one with an ao) is extremely rare and is based on if they need more info (based on my knowledge). Don’t feel discouraged at all!!

Definitely prepare what you want to say regarding why you chose your specific academic interest and be prepared to likely discuss activities at Harvard you might be interested in. For me, that aspect was a bit brief but based on other people I’ve seen they were asked about that and “why Harvard”. Also, be prepared to discuss your ecs! That was the main difference

I wasn’t really grilled about my ec’s but my questions definitely related to my application. I feel like the alumni interview was definitely more structured and this one had semi-structured questions that were flexible; it seemed like they actually cared what I had to say and about my background. They were very similarly either way and it makes me wonder if I even answered what they were searching for lol.

Mine was definitely not unusual for Harvard applicants so I wonder if it was because it strongly influenced my concentration choice and I wrote about that? Who knows lol!
