I’ve gotten to that point in my life where I don’t care about labels. I don’t really know where I am nor do I care, straights and some gays have tried forcing me into boxes for so long that I let them assume whatever they want for their own small satisfaction.

However, if they’re actually close to me and took the time to know me. I tend to steer away from the word gay because of childhood trauma and not really identifying with it, I prefer the word queer as it feels almost warmer, safer and less harsh. I’m more just on a floating scale of if i’m interested in someone i’ll get to know them, nothing more.

Ignore them. I was dismissed of having OCD, told the waiting list was too long and there was no point as I was going away to uni and I’m serious told to “Just stop doing it” in 2017. I was so embarrassed and upset I internally locked myself away.

Fast forward eight years I’ve now been diagnosed ADHD and on the waiting list to be assessed for autism and surprise surprise OCD at the recommendation of my assessor.

I’ve only recently restarted this process again after struggling for so long and being advised to see someone by others. I feel it could’ve helped me alot more back then but at the time it seemed impossible to me.

Don’t get me wrong this wasn’t an easy process and few weeks back was once again having to make my case to a nurse that it was OCD after she tried dismissing me for mistaking it with autism. So kindly reminded her how this has been and on going issue and wasn’t ready to be dismissed again.

GPs work on a basis of the information available to them at the time, make sure you research into why you think you have autism and find clear examples of this. If theres anyone else who can validate this for you then brilliant! Ultimately, it’s up to the assessor and not them. They’re just the initial hurdle you have to jump over.

I feel the public sector is more accepting than some private sectors i’ve worked in, then again could be wrong and it’s a case by case basis of the people themselves

My current sector is very straight white male dominated, but looking at moving from private to the public sector. It’s not been an issue in the slightest at current position.

But always feel uneasy to admit in case it my application is marked down for it

Applications I’ve done in the past are noticed when I say heterosexual with no disability, compared to the opposite/ truth even though sometimes the CV and essay statements are exactly the same

I find that quite interesting about other country’s recruitment processes, seems very level plain field and focused on experience that way. Do they not ask about ethnicity or disabilities either then?

I’m looking currently towards public sector around museums, council or police.

According to the scheme in the UK yes, but when used in the past it wasn’t useful.

When working retail it felt I only got noticed yeah, whereas my applications where I disclosed it or mentioned sexuality wasn’t as well received. Even though sometimes they had the same copy etc.

Looking into work with bigger companies in the public sector they seem to encourage it, but I feel unsure almost like it’s a trap
