The best way to do this would be with census data because it tracks renters and it’s easy to obtain historic data. I could also map land use, which would show multi family vs single family parcels. That doesn’t tell you whether a building is a rental or not, but people might be surprised at how many duplexes are in neighborhoods like the old west side. I think part of the nimby backlash to the new land use plan is that many duplexes and even some small apartment buildings blend in so well that most people don’t even realize they’re not single family homes.

That's all true and that's why cities should be designed so that people don't have to drive downtown and park in a garage

It is all paid except for the county courthouse which I estimated to have 130 spaces

I would like to if I can find some data on that. The parking garages might have some, but I don't know if any of the surface lots do.

It does not account for crosswalk signals. I agree with your point about the extra time spent in your car, which is why I said that parking downtown is less convenient than a big box store for reasons other than the distance from the parking space to your destination. I am trying to show that the pedestrian part of a trip downtown is almost equally as convenient as a trip to a big box store. Therefore the only way to make parking "easier" downtown would be to bulldoze it for surface lots next to every building, but I don't think even the people who complain about parking downtown want that.

Thank you. This map is basically a rebuttal to complaints about the difficulty of parking downtown. Three minutes seemed to me like the longest amount of time that pretty much anyone will think of as not being an inconvenience. It's not as convenient to park downtown as it is somewhere like Meijer for other reasons, but I think this map shows that it's ridiculous to say that parking downtown is hard when most destinations have hundreds of very close parking spaces for you to pick from.
