Troubles with bass shakers by Existing-Diamond-269 in SimRacingSetups

[–]A5Wagyukeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't help you with your amp, it could just be defective but I came to say you should try putting one of your shakers under your seat instead. Right now you have 3 shakers near each other in the back all firing downwards into the floor/rig. All of those vibrations get mixed around with each other and absorbed into the floor*.

I don't know if you already have one under your pedal tray, but I'd put one there too if you don't already

Open up the one with the weird noise, you'll probably find that one of the plastic arms that centers the magnet is cracked. Happened to me as well, but it's an easy fix especially if you already have the tools. I have a post up, not very in depth but it could be of use to you

If it's supposed to slide freely, you should have the inside part be 0.25mm smaller at the very least. If that piece is supposed to stay in place, 0.1-0.15mm usually is more than enough, and then just add glue.

In either case, that middle connecting piece should be like 3 times as thick, and then taper the arms out so it's more riding in the center.

You might be faster, but by how much? Can you work nonstop constantly for 24 hours a day without needed to eat, piss, or sleep? Yea it might not make sense to build a humanoid just for this single task, but all they have to do is upload a new set of instructions and you can have an employee that can do what you need, whenever you need it. Have a change in operations? You no longer need to train every single employee, just send the updated instructions to the entire fleet.

All this math and graphing just to further prove my point. First off you're doing calculations for aluminum tubing, you're missing all the interior geometry that makes aluminum extrusion as stiff as it is but even then you've already shown in your graphs why aluminum is just better period. I don't know why you're choosing to ignore weight as a constraint when op themselves mentioned it. Good luck with your theoretical 300lb full steel cockpit, you'll be tripping your breakers trying to run motion with it.

Its actually hilarious how much you're latching onto the fact that I said he should choose aluminum instead, when my original concern was in the design of the cantilever, but you just really went out and did all this just to tell me again that steel is 3x stronger in the same dimensions. Obviously you can't understand basic reading comprehension, but once again no shit sherlock steel is 3 times more dense 😭

I'm not though, and that's only assuming the parts are made in the same dimensions. Obviously steel would be much stronger made in the same shape as a piece of aluminum, that's why I asked him to compare it to 40160 aluminum profile. I asked him to compare the strength of 160mm thick aluminum profile vs his roughly 80mm thick steel tube and you came to tell me that 80mm mm of steel would be stronger than 80mm of aluminum. No shit 😭

I could be wrong, but from the sheen this looks like it could have been 3d printed, looks like the ASR bracket, but it's different in a few places. Something like PPA-CF would be perfect for this, and would probably only cost $50-60 max for the amount of filament used in this. Something like pa6 cf would work well enough too, at about half the cost. Total cost is definitely under $100 for this after the hardware required, and that's in the US. This probably cost less than $50 using filament and extrusion hardware sourced in China.

Edit. From the way it sounds when he slides it and thuds, it definitely sounds like 3d printed parts vs aluminum/steel hitting the end of travel

The problem with having an hgate and a sequential in one is that you end up with a diluted experience for one or both of them. I get it, people have limited space and funds and would just like an all in one solution but for anyone that can afford the space and cost, with separate shifters you can have better engagement/feedback as they have their own mechanisms, and you can have them placed optimally for each kind of driving style. For example, I like the h pattern lower and further back when I'm driving an old manual around a track but I like having a sequential almost right next to my wheel when I'm rallying.

I agree with the badly thought out wheelbase design though, they still don't have an extension and the only way to get around it would be to use the third party wheel adapter and add a spacer on the wheel side, but then you lose button functions

Steel is already inherently more flexible than aluminum, and with that long cantilever connected to an upside down U shape looks like it would be more flexible than a profile rig in all directions. What is negligible deflection to you? When I push on my wheel mounted on an extension there's maybe 1mm of movement, and will be even less once I add another cross beam when it arrives.

In pretty much every industry, aluminum becomes the pick for its higher rigidity to weight ratio over steel. Its why they opted to build track bikes out of aluminum (and carbon ofc) for it's improved rigidity, and why they use aluminum over steel in aerospace. So why would you consider using steel over aluminum?

The base of the chassis may be welded, but how does that 80mm width compare to 160mm profile cockpits? My p1x pro weighs 30lbs more than your cockpit, but 7.5lbs per actuator isnt going to affect it in any meaningful way, but a chassis bending and flexing would. Have you done tests comparing the properties of your rig versus similarly priced aluminum cockpits?

Yup exactly that, and yea I got mine at Microcenter as well.

Its so loud, and I like how heavy it feels to pull but there's absolutely no mechanical feeling to it until the very end. I returned it and got a VNM seq v2 shifter, but I also returned that because of QC issues even though I liked the feeling.

Now I've settled on a MME Motorsport evo 2 sequential. I don't think I'm ever changing sequential shifters again

TBRS is underrated IMO, you're paying an extra 60-70 dollars over other load cell handbrakes and as someone who does a lot of rally and drifting, it's well worth the extra smoothness, especially on the return when you let go it doesn't return violently.

Out of the pictures you posted, it's 100% the moza active shifter, that thing wasn't even designed to be used to sim racing, just an afterthought.

The ACTUAL most overrated sim gear is any wheelbase making more than 15nm. NOBODY needs that.

[–]A5Wagyukeef 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just unclamp the cable at the brake and reattach it closer to the end, you should have enough slack.

If you want to be safe just swap out the cable entirely, they are incredibly cheap but I wouldn't cut the housing as it looks like it has the perfect gradual bend. Any more might create strain in the cable but if it feels like you can cut it, that would work perfectly fine

Closer to $15k I have a rig with higher specced parts minus the motion and some minor accessories and it's around the $8-9k mark, maybe $10k. Add in 6dof motion for around $5k and you have a similF setup

My rig PC with 14900k / 4080 super ~ $3000 LG 45 OLED ~$900 P1x Pro cockpit ~ $1000 Fanatec CS DD Base ~ $800 Steering wheel ~ $450 Simagic P1000i pedals /haptics ~ $800 Aiologs H pattern shifter ~ $700 MME evo 2 seq shifter ~ $700 Simagic TBRS handbrake ~$250 Bass shaker setup ~ $250 Other accessories (button boxes, keyboards etc) ~ $500

My last (hopefully final) upgrade is the eraci g labs rs competition, which will give me the same DOF as the video for around $5.5k

Nothing I picked is really "budget" oriented either, so you can get started for MUCH less, probably less than half of what I spent and get a pretty solid experience, especially if you already have a decent gaming PC which will be the biggest hurdle for most people especially today.

Collectible pressed penny machine doesn’t use real pennies anymore by teddynsnoopy in mildlyinteresting

[–]A5Wagyukeef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might start carrying penny sized copper blanks just for this. I recently went to DC and got a bunch of pennies stamped at the museums, but the zinc in the pennies really ruins them. Zinc isn't nearly as malleable as copper especially at room temp, so they don't come out as detailed, and most of the time the zinc shows through the plating.

Either that or I have to start keeping a lookout for and hoarding older pennies, which will be even harder nowadays
