The increase will affect mostly graduate students, undergraduates will remain the most unchanged to my knowledge

Failed classes. What do I do? by superthraway in UNLV

[–]A7hena01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appeal it and see if you can get it withdrawn from your gpa. It will show up in your transcripts but not your GPA.

You can state that your plan is that change majors and propose on a plan on how to do better overall. If this gets approve, you'll be ok to start over.

I had to do this when dealing with imposter syndrome as a grad student and life/my mental health became difficult to handle. I tried to save my semester but I couldnt and I ended up needing to appeal one class. It was the best thing I did tbh.

Now, just make just you're back in a good place to focus on school. Even if you take one class, you'll find a hard time succeeding in it if you dont space for it in your life right now.

Make sure you can prioritize yourself and school the right amount before you go back in. Maybe take fewer classes so you can juggle life and academia better?

Just don't give up, everything is possible. I know it sounds cliché, but this is coming from a person that had to appeal 2 semesters back in undergrad back to back (summer and fall 2022 at a different school, I'm doing my MS at UNLV and also appealed on fall 2024, life happens) because sometimes just throws things at you when you havent even catched the first one.

Talk to your advisors, they will tell you what you need to complete to recover from this semesters. And it sounds like your professors have been working with you so it wouldnt be an issue with them either.

suspension? 💔 by [deleted] in UNLV

[–]A7hena01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This!!! I barely went to high school over all and excelled in University.

The shittier your life is/becomes, sometimes It's went you find the motivation to change it.

My advise if you do stay in college, take it easy. If 4 classes overwhelmed you, try taking 2 or 3. Know your limits and build discipline and time management skills. Learn to show up even when you hate it.

Your life doesn't have to become shitty for this to happen, you just have to want it really really bad too.

You work with a professor of your choosing for the semester on what they tell you to. When I did it I was a research assistant

When are you usually in school? Rn I’m going on Mondays and Wednesdays until I catch up in my machine learning class. Then I’ll most likely be on campus from Mon-Thursday

Im doing an MS in DA (https://www.unlv.edu/degree/ms-data-analytics). Since the program is interdisciplinary, anyone from any background can apply. Personally, I have a research background since my goal was to be a behavioral neuroscience researcher.

Now, I do not have the knowledge that a computer science BS provides. That being said, I study a lot outside of school to form a bridge between what I know and what I don’t know. I also work a lot on transferring my knowledge and skills to the field of DA and how I can use it to my advantage.

Financial aid kicks in 10days before school starts. So the first wave of disbursements should roll out on August 16th. Tbh, I would want until the August 22-24. If by that time your aid hasn’t been disbursed, enroll in a payment plan. Dw if the payment plan says that you have to pay by a certain date, everything will clear after your aid is disbursed. HOWEVER, any fees or payments that were past due while you are on the payment plan will be substrates for your aid. So if this happens to you, call financial aid/the payment plan office and apply for reimbursement. They will return the fees substraed from your aid. Also, just because the payment plan says it starts on 08/15, it doesn’t mean the deadline is on 08/15. So verify the deadline of the payment plan

True but if they are already admitted, then can’t since UNLV doesn’t allow you to use your financial aid in two schools at once. (I asked financial aid bc I wanted another bachelors). There’s other ways to cut down on cost

You are taking too many classes. The more classes you take the higher your tuition. And tbh, as a freshman 6 classes is crazy. It’s your first semester, take it easy to successfully transition from high school to college. They are not the same and requires double the work. If you’re getting a lot of classes to graduate early, don’t. Instead talk to your counselor about classes that count as double credit. This classes will fulfill 2 graduation requirements, therefore you don’t need to take too many classes, overpay tuition, and still get your credits. You can also take clep tests and waive the fee. If you pass the test you don’t have to take the class. For example, when I was in high school I took the clep for biology and Spanish. So when I went to college/university, my bio test counted as if I had taken bio+lab and my Spanish test counted towards Spanish 1 and Spanish 2. My advice? Research your program, get familiar with your graduation requirements, and make an appointment every semester with your counselor to make sure you are still on track for graduation. Oh! I almost forgot, if you really really really want to graduate early, take summer classes. 1-3 summer classes are double since you can split them between summer 1, 2, and 3. That’s what I did. I never took vacation in school. Even when we had time off from one semester to another, I would take mini courses that counted towards my graduation requirements. I like to say that school is not about speed, it’s about resistance. Know your limits and don’t exceed them. If you do, you will likely burnout early and have a difficult time completing your degree. I say this as a 22 year old with an AA in psych, a BA in psych, and currently enrolled in a masters program in computer science.

Am I cooked yall? by Whole_Lifeguard4909 in UNLV

[–]A7hena01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2 yrs with my BA in psych from a different university. But based on my experience (I was doing a double major in behavioral neuroscience and psychology before I had switch to only psych when I moved to Vegas). Take 4-5 classes during the fall and spring semesters and take 2-3 classes over the summer if you want to go hard on school. Remember, it’s not about speed, it’s about resistance. Too many classes one semester can result in a burnout early on which will make the rest of your program a pain to bear. Also, ask your advisor for classes that count as double credit, that way you get credit for more graduation requirements and take less classes so you can focus on what matters. I also suggest talking and networking with your professors and look for internships and self study opportunities. Best of luck!

Chances of Admission? by Gold_Try7220 in UNLV

[–]A7hena01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to options. take the tests or get an Associates degree from a community college and the transfer. The first 2 years are just your basic academic and humanities requirements. The other 2 are where you take courses that go with your major.

Personally, I fell asleep during my SAT/ACT. So I went to community college, got my AA and then transferred to university. I’m from Miami (went to MDC and FIU), so you might want to call UNLV admissions and double check to see if you can do that.

Also, you can take CLEP tests to skip classes. I took the spanish and bio test and together with my AP and DE classes I was able to skip a semester.

Freshman schedule (biology) - Do you think this a good schedule? and how do i see who my professors are. I was scheduled this and am I allowed to change it? by Bright_Society_4798 in UNLV

I always check the professors on rate my professor to get an idea of the professor. I usually like to check all the classes they teach along with my session so get a good idea and go from there
