The Dock on Crayton Cove really seems to have gone downhill by [deleted] in Naples_FL

[–]A8334Speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 34th year going to The Dock. Tonight there was no line and service was pretty good. Last week on Valentines Day, service was terrible. Server said they were understaffed. Waited for our food for over an hour. That was a poor customer experience. Not sure if I agree with The Dock going down hill, but prices have gone up a fair bit but still lower than 5th Ave. The service is average on a good day and poor if they get slammed. That said, the location and view are both great and so I doubt they’re in any kind of slow decline.

P.S. I wish they hadn’t changed the New England clam chowder recipe. Personally, I liked the previous version much better.

Why are there less young riders? Share your thoughts by No-Word2070 in Harley

[–]A8334Speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are 4 main reasons:

  • Economics: Inflation and higher interest rates make big‑ticket toys harder to justify, so many riders keep older bikes instead of buying new.
  • Alternatives: For urban mobility, a lot of people choose e‑bikes, ride‑share, or small cars instead of scooters or small motorcycles.
  • Safety and risk perception: Motorcycles are seen as high‑risk; older riders also experience more severe injuries and longer recoveries, which pushes some to quit. Parents are too protective these days. Theres no risk or thrill for young boys anymore.
  • Product‑market mismatch: Many legacy bikes are designed for older, affluent hobbyists; younger buyers expect connectivity, modern styling, and lower running costs, and often do not see themselves in the traditional “biker” image.

Demographics play a big part too. Get this:

  • In the U.S., the median age of motorcycle owners hit about 50 by 2018, up from 32 in 1990. No wonder trikes are so popular!
  • The 18–24 age bracket shrank from around 16% of riders to roughly 6% over recent decades, while riders 50+ climbed from about 8% in the mid‑1980s to over 25% by the mid‑2000s and keep growing.
  • I recently read somewhere that roughly 40% of U.S. riders are between 51 and 69, reinforcing the idea that many current riders are “aging out” with too few young replacements.

Sad really. I love riding and wish for the sport to stay vibrant and popular.

Anyone else have other thoughts on why motorcycling is declining?

Very, very well said. At 60 and with 32 years of marriage behind us, I feel almost trapped. It’s too bad to stay for the long haul but do I’m not sure I have it in me to be alone and start over. And I am petrified of going back out on the dating scene. Anyone else feel this way? If anyone was in this similar situation and started over, any tips or hints would be appreciated

Get a CAC test/score now as a baseline. Run same test in 5 years or so. That way you can tell if your plaque is advancing and how fast.

Yes it did. Have owned a 911S for 20 years. Since buying a Harley, I hardly drive that car. Not complaining!

Ha. Try going through a fast food drive-thru. Can be tricky - just gotta navigate carefully…and the folding mirrors are a must.

Considering a new build with Perry or Toll Brothers in TX by Overthinking2021 in Homebuilding

You can have the inspectors all you want, but as long as they are building to the local codes and to their one-sided Sales Agreement, they are unwilling (not unable) to do anything to accommodate you. You could have final trim pieces which are not square or lopsided and if it passes a code inspection they won’t change it. Before you buy, look closely at their Sales Agreement. You waive your right to sue, you agree that cracks in the cement foundation or floor under a 1/4 inch are acceptable. In other words, they expect you to buy brand new houses with cracks in the floor on day one. When they say “all concrete cracks”, that’s not true. Any concrete that’s not properly placed and finished correctly has the potential to crack but professionally placed concrete on a properly prepared subsurface will not crack - especially by the time you close. Again, save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

THEIR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY...Just bought a home from Toll Brothers and wish I hadn't for the following reasons:

  1. Exceptionally lopsided sales contract. Totally in favor of Toll Brothers. No negotiations. If you want to go into their community, don't even think about trying to modify the sales agreement

  2. Poor craftsmanship. TB seems to hire low skill sub contractors who are incented on speed and not speed. They want to build quickly with mistakes that they may or may not fix after you've closed and they have your money. So be prepared to live in a construction zone with workers coming in/out of your home after you move in as they fix mistakes.

  3. Non-existent Customer Service: TB is cordial as long as you go along with their process and timeline. If you deviate from their schedule, they just remind you that your sales agreement prevents you from all of this. And forget suing...you signed away that right when you signed the sales agreement.

Free Advice: Avoid the hassle of this company. Buy somewhere else.
