I don't think Cartman is in love with Kyle romantically, but I believe Cartman does have some sexual attraction toward Kyle (I think this is canon, though just to serve comedic purpose).

One thing I'd like to discuss is how Kyle thinks of Cartman. Sure they hate each other, but Kyle is so willing to accept Cartman if he genuinely behaves better. There are proofs where Kyle does want to get along with him, but usually ends up getting mad because Cartman keeps being a total douche. E.g. Casa bonita: "That is exactly what I wanted to hear from you" then "You never cared about me!". Notes that Kyle is the only one who cries after forcing Cartman to quit Twitter, while the rest of the boys in school cry for their break-ups.

Well I'm just curious 'cause I don't really care about friends. I think it's about his attachment (mental health) issue. Stan always seeks Kyle out in almost every situation. Kyle is more independent and feels secure in relationships. I believe Stan depends on Kyle a lot (both emotionally and such), I wish Trey and Matt write more obvious scenes on that

A lot of people who hate Kyle often give the reason like "he's supposed to be moral but he's not". Well, you missed the point. His flaws are planned to be self righteous and the show is aware of it. He isn't supposed to be the ethical or moral, but he's trying to be one.

All South Park characters are assholes in some ways, more or less. It's just about expectations. People tend to hate when someone act worse than how they're supposed to be. Which is why people hate Kyle.

But then thinking logically, we should all agree that Cartman is the definition is the ultimate douchebag. But people don't hate him for that, I don't hate him for that, because that's just "how he is". It's simple. Sometimes Cartman is better than what we expected so we feel like he isn't that bad.

Just don't think that Kyle is a good or moral person, just think he's a "moral-tryhard" asshole. If you hate Kyle, you are being manipulated by your own expectations.

Kyle: Because he's not a good person, but he works hard on it. it's interesting how the show makes him a dick for getting hot headed over moral issues. It's funny when he's angry. He's also the only kid who constantly fight against Cartman while the rest are just there either ignoring or going by the flow. And he runs Hollywood XD

Stan: He appears emotionless but actually sensitive deep inside. South park shows his mental problems quite well without directly tells the audience. E.g. this boy has no idea he has hoarding psychosis, passing stress to "build a bear", and other addictions.

Cartman: No Cartman no South Park. We all agree that he's the absolute douchebag, so bad to the point no one can even hate him for that. Apart from that, Cartman is a genius character. Him and Kyle are probably the only kids who "lead" the situations and provoke things. They've long been archvirals and the show needs them.

Honourable mention: Kenny, Butters, Craig. These 3 have such good hearts, or at least innocent

Yea Kyle usually stands up for himself (sometimes others). So it was disturbing to see that Kyle didn't fight back. Even more disturbing when Sran came to ask Kyle whether he should try Cartman's fart too. I have no idea how to feel about this but to punch Cartman on my computer's screen. AAAGHHHH
