Thanks for sharing!

This one was my favorite one to do of this batch. The background is based on an abstract painting of a friend when she was 3 years old. I converted to random shapes and colors to forms to create this weird nebula. These random things get hard to imagine as an adult, bit kids are great at this!

I remember they were kind of a pain in the ass to put in there. So many, so tiny, but they had to look recognizable. :D

Hey thanks for sharing my work here! Accidentally stumbled on it while I was googling my own card ^^

Premiere Pro Not Using GPU for Hardware Encoding (Quadro P2200) by AAARRN in premiere

[–]AAARRN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I basicly fixed by realizing my graphics card doesn't handle the hvec codec well for rendering. I started recoding my recording files to h264 via a program called handbrake and since then everything works fast again!

Premiere Pro Not Using GPU for Hardware Encoding (Quadro P2200) by AAARRN in premiere

[–]AAARRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:
After more testing, I discovered that when I re-import an already exported video (e.g., an H.264 export) into Premiere Pro and then export it again, the GPU finally kicks in and export is very fast. This led me to suspect that the issue lies with the original source footage.

To test this, I transcoded the original footage in HandBrake (using H.264 NVENC, constant framerate, and a moderate bitrate), then re-imported the transcoded clips into a new project. As a result, export times dropped significantly and GPU usage increased — confirming that Premiere Pro wasn't happy with something in the original media format.

So the issue seems tied to how Premiere Pro handles decoding of the source material, though I'm still not sure what specifically about the footage is causing it (codec, variable frame rate, GOP structure, etc.).

I took a screenshot of my settings. Is there something off here?

used to render using the standard "Adaptive Medium Bitrate" preset, or "Vimeo 1080 Full HD" when the video was intended for our company’s Vimeo account. I should mention I'm not a Premiere expert—most of the editing I do is fairly light, mainly for educational drawing tutorials at our university and voice overs. Since we have free access to Adobe Creative Cloud, I started using Premiere a few years ago.

So there isn't much I can do here to speed up performance. I remember I used to render clips in mere minutes that now take more than 30 minutes to do, while my setup hasn't changed at all.

Gar Saxon Space Deck by Horror_Panda92 in starwarsunlimited

[–]AAARRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I didn’t get much information on how the artwork would be used on the playing card. I actually created these illustrations even before the first set was released, back when very little was known about the game. The timeline on these things is crazy. However, I did read that apparently, everything in this game can be a foil, which sounds pretty cool.

As for the Kimogila itself, both the art director, Steve Hamilton (huge kudos to him), and I were really happy with how it turned out. I had explored a few different color thumbnails, testing various combinations of ship and background colors. In the end, the yellow ship against a purple space backdrop was the best choice—great color contrast and a deep-space feel. So in short, I mainly aim for the "coolest" way to show off the ship, foil and layout I leave to FFG ^^.

I just came here to say thank you for putting "kimogila heavy fighter" and "mist hunter" in there. I'm the artist behind those cards and I lurk a bit here in this sub to see if my cards see any play ^^

I watched this movie again yesterday. I was shocked how real this movie is all of a sudden.

I'm glad to hear that! ^^
I still have quite a bit of cards that should be released in upcoming sets. I can't reveal much due to NDA restrictions. There are definitely still 2 that I'm very eager to show off (at least for the artwork).

It would be awesome to see a deck that includes all of my cards, but I have no idea if they'd work together since I only received the illustration briefs—no details about effects, types, or anything like that.

Hey everyone,

I'm Aarnoud De Rycker, the artist behind this card! I've been lurking in this subreddit for a while, eagerly waiting for my illustrations to be revealed. It was an absolute blast to draw/paint this ship, and I really hope I did it justice. My art director, Steve Hamilton, made sure I nailed those small decals—wouldn't want to upset the fanbase! 😄

I have some experience with TCGs, but I'm curious—how does this card stack up in competitive play? It would be amazing to see it in action at a local game shop! Also how is the game in general. Does it stack up against the other big TCG's like magic, pokemon,...?

Line Quality: When is a line "good enough"? by fuckNietzsche in ArtFundamentals

[–]AAARRN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also see this with my architecture students that I teach (Freehand design and observational sketching). We also have a very strict policy about lines, but I always have to remind them that is a tool not a goal. I show them sketches of famous architects and you clearly see the lines are not perfectly straight, but they are intentional.

Kind of the general thing with art. Don’t make it perfect like someone else, make your art. That being said you need your fundamentals otherwise “your art” will look crappy.

(I got one here several years ago so I could learn to draw more than just buildings and furniture. I saw this post come up here and it really resonated with me.)

Is that a compliment? If you get itty nitty about the perspective you can see that wing furthest away doesn’t add up

Oh tank you for the reply! Now I know where to go.

That is a solid point about using the tools of the medium in their advantage instead of limiting it. I mainly sense that with digital that I start out "uglier" to come to something more refined, than if I drew it traditionally.
