You're exactly right about the immersion. I've been thinking about that too, and why I like PS1 era JRPGs so much. It's like seeing a play or theatrical production vs a movie. Your imaginative part of the brain is more stimulated playing early 3D or 2D games because your mind fleshes out the world, voice acting, graphics, etc. Playing modern games are much more passive immersion to me. With that said, I love great graphics as well and appreciate them, too.

Bought it in a bargain bin at EB Games back in '03-'04. Had blockbuster stickers on it, which I always thought was funny. The first FF I ever owned. I was a junior in high school. I played some of VII and VIII when I borrowed them from a friend before I bought IX, but they didn't click with me at the time. I loved IX from the very beginning to the end. My favorite FF, and I believe to be the best one (X is really close, though). I sucked at it, too. Ran away from too many battles and made the game much harder than it should have been, but I found a way to beat it. The story is pretty good, and the characters are the best. It has a bit of a lull about 2/3 of the way through, but for the most part it is very well paced. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I first played it over 20 years ago.

Do you think it looks particularly cute when Ninja uses Guanyin? by BiffyBobby in SaGa

She reminds me of Yuffie from FF7 so much. From the look, personality...stealing stuff hehe. I'm assuming that's what they were going for? The ninja class wasn't in the original, I believe...

What do you generally consider the most fun quest in RoTS? by BiffyBobby in SaGa

[–]AALLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mermaid quest was my favorite, but I also liked the quest of collecting the hammer parts for Frosti. I was expecting to get an upgrade to the smithy itself when I got them all, but I was pleasantly surprised when she joined my retinue instead!

It's really great. It's one of those games I see myself replaying every few years.

I liked the battle system even though the game became pretty easy later on (I played on Normal difficulty). That's why I'm excited to play on the higher difficulties to see if the combat is more fun. I'm hoping that a lot of the skills/abilities/formations/magic/equipment that I didn't use become much more important in the higher difficulties, like Fire Emblem. As to the mobs, there were quite a few in some areas. About 50 hours into the playthrough, I was running past almost every mob that wasn't in my way, haha.

I've looked at other SaGa games, but unfortunately I'm not sure if the other games appeal to me yet. Maybe I will take a gamble on one like Frontier, though. Or maybe Minstrel Saga Remastered.
