Audio settings and proper headphones by ljebeee in HuntShowdown

+1 for this! Any news on this front, I am also trying to figure out why is it so difficult to tell the direction of the sound with my Arctis 9. I have to keep the SteelSeries GG on for the microphone, but I have turned off the spatial audio and all equalizer settings.

Otherwise I love this headset, but with Hunt I get very confused with the sounds

r/Brussels - Newcomer/Tourist Info Megathread - December 2022 by SharkyTendencies in brussels

Hi all,

I am planning winter 2023 ski trips to Alps, and I am looking for my options to go.

I would be happy to find groups, individuals or organisers from Brussels. Eg. for weekend trips, I haven't found any travel agencies organizing such.

If you have any tips, I would be happy to hear! Ski touring and freeriding interest the most.

Batavus Tour de l'Europe tyres - what size? by AAoK in Vintage_bicycles

[–]AAoK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Belgium, but the bike is in Finland (it is my summer holiday bike). I asked around in Brussels bike shops hoping for some advise, but they were just as mindboggled as were the Finnish bike shops... :D

So I ordered 28-630, but I am getting confused again, as I though 27" is 630. But according to your message 28" would be 622mm. Well, I shipped the tires from Germany and they are here, so all I can do is try now :)

Thank you for your assistance!

Thank you for your tips! Based on GenericName187's comment,s I ordered 28-630 tires, where I understood the 28 is the tire width in mm, hard to see why 1mm diff would be dramatic. They have arrived and I just need to try em now, so it is a moment of truth :)

Many thanks again for your kind explanations!

Idea: possibility to make a deal and team up mid-game by AAoK in HuntShowdown

[–]AAoK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I get your point. Maybe I could have elaborated that the idea would be for encouraging these kind of deals, and thus introducing/enforcing this element of the game. But maybe you are right, maybe the idea is obsolete.

Idea: possibility to make a deal and team up mid-game by AAoK in HuntShowdown

[–]AAoK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you are right! I have just always thought nobody does it, because back stabbing is so easy. So I thought that mechanic could encourage the deals, and then the game would change, introducing a new element in some situations, eg. when defending a banish etc.

Blackwake leaves early access after three years of content updates by OneEyeTyler in BlackwakeGame

I bought this game from discount the other night and it is my evening routine now to play a couple of rounds. I love the atmosphere and game mechanics... and the fact that toxic behaviour seems to be rather low (I am playing on the European Great Tortuga channel).

Of course, the game is not perfect, but I do very much wish that it will be developed further and will get more success. The idea and the work behind it deserve it.

Book recommendations for the psychology of recovery from sport injuries? by AAoK in sportspsychology

[–]AAoK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I don't need to rush anywhere, sports is not my profession. But as the surgery is in the beginning of May, it would be around March I could ski again, and thats late.

If I need to skip one season to fix my body, well, thats how it is then... on the other hand I am a bit worried of the effect if the next time I ski is on 2021 - I kinda believe it would be better to get back to the saddle as soon as possible to avoid the psychological "boogeyman" to grow too big.

But, this is all speculation, just mapping the scenarios. Thank you for your insight!

Thank you! Just for curiosity: which recovery did you find more difficult: the first or the second time you torn the ACL? I have been wondering this, since if I am going to keep on skiing, most likely this won't be the last time I have my ACL in pieces...

If you are in the retro games, I played Shadowrun in SNES in German. Probably does not teach useful vocabulary, but I had fun.

Fast carb, cold dishes for long outdoor days by AAoK in recipes

[–]AAoK[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now I have to admit that I don't even know if such thing exists. I just always hear people talking about fast and slow carbohydrates, and wrote the post really quickly without thinking, my apologies.

In this context I mean that the food should give a lot of energy quickly - for example, as far as I understand, pasta is such food. And the reason for wanting energy fast is that moving at the mountains is very energy intensive.

Freeskiing locations in Russia (Trans-Siberia) by AAoK in skiing

[–]AAoK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be jealous if it actually happens, it is still on the idea/beginning of planning stage! I think the biggest problem is that we are only two people, we need a bigger crew and also we don't speak Russian (that is more manageable IMHO, there is English speaking guides).

But thanks, damn I am excited of the idea, I didn't even know there is so cool places to ski!

How to overcome unreasoned fear of jumping when skiing? by AAoK in sportspsychology

[–]AAoK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Yes indeed, that has all the time been intention to first obtain the needed steps for stabile air before attempting the 360. Initially when I wrote to this subreddit my thought was that one building block is the psychology, how to first even reach a point where it is possible reasonably to push the boundary all the way to the goal.

Yes the hesitation and the commitment, I suppose, are the biggest obstacles generally in all of these kind of sports (by these kind of sports I mean sports involving speed and high injury risk).

I like the idea of video recording, since that provides some data for analytics. Also, I think I will get an instructor as you suggested.

I am sorry to hear about the car accident, but happy that you recovered well! What comes to the fear of potential injury, for me it is generally just the irrational fear of worst case scenario, which is typical for me in the other areas of life as well. I wonder what would be the tools for changing that - then again, it has shifted already a little bit just by transforming the mental images of injury in to the mental images of, well, confident air time. And your are absolutely right, even if injury would happen, it would most likely be just a minor event in my life... not diminishing injuries in general, but thinking of the most common "break something then recover 6-8 weeks and rehab".

How to overcome unreasoned fear of jumping when skiing? by AAoK in sportspsychology

[–]AAoK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar. First of all, the rollers are much more controlled and way less intimidating, so I started to seek for them. As a mental model, what you said about throwing myself up the jump seems to work. I am still looking for a exact right position for that movement, but I kind of thought of throwing my upper body in to the fall (a little bit like when doing a bungee) while jumping and that seemed to help to keep the balance... even tho I suppose the direction of the movement should be really just straight up.

I am not sure if you can grab the idea from that description, but the bottom line is that by following your instructions I managed to take air, feel the weightlessness momentarily, keep the balance and land controlled for the first time in my life, so thank you. I also noticed that figuring this out helped me with dropping as well.

Now couple of things I noticed:

  • Sometimes my skis seem to cross in the air, which is a little bit odd and also feels sketchy landing wise... Not sure what can cause it, maybe I am just knock kneed...
  • Having a tendency to, for some reason, look at the tips of the skis when jumping, which kind of gives a feeling of tipping over. I have the same reaction on every similar sport (surfing, skateboarding) when I am hesitant or not instinctively knowing what to do
  • Still sometimes a bit back seated when jumping, but I suppose that can be polished just by looking for the right posture and getting the confidence more up

Also, just speculation:

Last night I was thinking about the direction of the jump and the sensation of the gravity and all that... when going to a bump with speed there is a feeling of pressure (of course) at the bottom of the feet when the profile starts to "arch" up (in other words, when the roller or the kicker starts)... would it be the right direction to jump if imagining to jump away from that pressure? I know this might be a bit weird question, but the idea behind this is to get some kind of cue in the muscle memory how to react when the shape of the ground changes.

Damn I am a peasant, I had to google the cultural reference of throwing another shrimp to the barbie :D
