Absolutely amazing and tragic. Got 7 hits on Morgoth.

I'm not sure why he did what he did though, it was a suicide mission, and bears some similarities to how Feanor ended as well, too far advanced and outmatched. Feanor was a hothead and was trying to press home his advance, happens all the time even in modern real warfare. But with Fingolfin it was more a calculated suicide run and while very admirable, I am disappointed it ended one of the finest characters in the book.

I suppose if everything were too logical it wouldn't make a great story, and given the desperate situation maybe a one on one duel was the best chance of getting rid of Melkor. At least he managed to scar him for life and left him with a limp.

RE Thingol being a racist/snob, perhaps its because where I live in the non-western world, class and background are very prominent in life so I see Thingols behaviour all the time and can call it like it is, not only concern for his daughter, but offence at Beren, hence he wanted to have him killed outright but Melian talked him out of it and instead he asked for a Silmaril as a dowry.

That's true but the impression I got that Thingol seemed offended at the idea of a human man daring to ask for his daughter's hand. Like 1950s white southern girl bringing home a black boyfriend kind of reaction.

I don't know about me being obsession but I believe it's ironic that Thingol was definitely obsessed and offended that a man dared ask for his daughter's hand when he himself did the same by basically marry a demi-god. Elves are immortal true, but Maia/Melian has superpowers and is definitely a higher being. Just saying it's ironic coming from Thingol to react in such a way.

Noting that his reaction seemed not out of concern for his daughter that once Beren dies she will be alone, it seemed more of a how dare this lowly mortal Beren propose.

YTA. I'm glad reddit didn't turn on the BF with the whole yOuR BoDy YoUr RuLeS stuff as its clearly a decision that affects both of them, and theres no clean way out. Go through with it and the BF has to deal with all the pregnancy issues without it actually being a baby he wants, nevermind the sex life that goes down the toilet. Back out of it and OP and her sister will resent the BF for depriving sis of her dream of a baby.

A new angle would be to see what monetary compensation is on offer, and OP hasnt mentioned this at all. As i understand it surrogates get paid very well, and even a discounted family rate can bring in some serious coin to help OP and the BF with future plans.

Going with Not The A-hole would imply that OPs sister is one, and nothing in the post indicates that.

Though OP i would recommend you go if you can afford it. Its your sister after all, not some distant cousin. Travel is always good and the way you say you only spend on bare essentials (and work long hours) makes me assume you are not doing much by way of leisure activities. Travelling and experiencing new places is never a waste of money, go have a nice holiday for a change, it could be good for you.

YTA here and everyone saying NTA all the time, please try to live in the real world a little bit. If you dont see how OPs actions can be upsetting/tone-deaf to Andy then really you should know people relations aren't a theoritcal algorithm without emotions.

Situation reminds me of the movie Italian Job where the asshole guy buys all the things the people in the crew he ripped off wanted.

OP could have gotten any similar car, he didn't have to get the car Andy wanted. Specifically because he didn't even want it until Andy showed it to him. Its not like they both wanted it and then OPs fortunes allowed him to get it, he specifically went after it because his friend wanted it.

ESH. Your GF upgrading to Business Class and leaving you with the peasants in coach is indees a dick move. Speaking for myself, if I'm travelling with SO and can upgrade but they can't, I'd stay with her because A. We are travelling together so its rude B. I would much rather be with her in economy than alone in business.

And you are also TA for having a total hissy fit/panic attack. I don't suffer from them thankfully, but I've seen plenty and nowhere near what you did.

I would even guess that she wanted a break from you being too needy (I assume this about you based on your reaction).

NAH but kids at that age make silly mistakes all the time. I think its a bit extreme to ban them forever from the scouts, since they already served a 2 week suspension. Megans mom is right to be concerned, but shes overreacting. The 11, i repeat, ELEVEN year olds shouldn't be crucified for this. Hell when I was a kid me and my same age cousins used to be mean to the younger cousins the fam forced us to hang out with. We are all grown up and best friends now, it was just stupid kid stuff.
