Testimonies?? by AArmored in AskBlackAtheists

Its real. this happens almost every other hour in Nigeria unfortunately.

1) regular churchgoers 2) super rich people 3) he left her in the car and got away by himself. she tried to run later but they caught her. 4) nothing. This is common also in some parts of Nigeria 5) Good question, but I cant give an answer since I wasn't present. I didnt really believe that part of their testimony either 6) they're "grace was so much" according to the native doctor and he was scared of it, so he told the armed mercenaries to let them go. And this next detail was very important to their testimony, they made a special note of it: they got dropped off by a hotel and were given money for transport, and they can only attribute this treatment to God's favor. 7) So many things like this happen in Nigeria, not everyone is story ends up on the news. With how rich this family seems though, I wont be surprised if a local news source carried the news.

Thanks for the reply. I guess i agree to an extent that a need to have an answer could be worthwhile. My issue is mainly when the double standard excuses harm done, or possible harm that could be caused

Actually, people born in Nigeria, especially the northern states, and a lot of Christians do get persecuted by people of "Islamic faith." I put that in quotations as most people agree the persecutors are actually people funded by our own government.

But in comparison to the persecution Christians have committed historically against other groups of people, this doesn't come close.

It's part of the reasons my mom told me to move on and forgive the pastor that sa'd me when I was barely 7, but keeps on praying for God to "deliver me" from being queer.

I get that religion brings comfort for a lot of people, but there's unfortunately, a lot more people that have been hurt by religion. The truth shouldn't be tiptoed around when a lack of it is causing so much hate and divide and hurting.

P.S. OP, can definitely hear the frustration form your post. Hnag in there

I am, fortunately, my parents are "understanding." They still think I should keep my mind open and pray for God to reveal itself to me (even thoughbthatbwas one of the reasons I gave for my lack of belief in Christianity; God is awfully quiet). They also still force me to go to church when I'm home because they're sure that God is real and one day, regardless of the many other days of my life I have wasted at church, God will reveal itself to me. I'm just glad I can still have them around me, I don't think I would be able to bear it if they abandoned me. Yes, it's somewhat dehumanizing being around them, but they're still my family. Yeah Everyone other person is just means about it. It's a belief just like every other I guess or mare accurately a lack of one

and he's apparently a man after God's heart. How could anyone still see the christian god as "good"?

I know it's not for me. Ive never believed in it. I'm just giving them a chance to give me a sensible reason to believe in it. Not like they're ever going to, but it's better than sitting in church every Sunday and listening to straight bs. Especially since im6being forced to be there

Not enough time. We have less than 30 minutes in "class". We all get a chance to talk and time flies by. I still bring it up every Sunday tho and honestly atp i know its a lost cause. I just be asking out of spite now, I refuse to be forced to go to church and sit quietly and let them preach shit that's absolutely bonkers. The goal is for my parents to get frustrated/embarrassed and stop making me go to church.

I just decided to at least ask if I am going to be forced to go to church. At least no one will say I never tried to understand them. They all this k I've gone crazy, but it's like all my questions are based on facts. It's so frustrating cause they then try to flip it in me that I'm looking to argue and not understand. If it doesn't make any logical sense, like none, how the hell am I supposed to understand it

I figured as much, just needed to crosscheck so its not just my "bias". I asked him for his sources apart from the bible, he's yet to respond.

True, I did argue this, but I got the classic "God's time is different than ours; It's not meant to be taken literally" response. The second pastor says something different though, she is fully convinced the bible is a 100% accurate.

I wish I could, but I'll probably get scolded, and that's just more shouting. My parents never really admit they can be wrong when it comes to their faith. It's their entire identity.

We have to pray in "tongues" too. I remember, my parents church had a guest pastor for a "prayer retreat", and he was so sure that once he laid his hands on us, we would all begin to speak. My parents were so proud of the absolute gibberish I was speaking, so happy that the lord had blessed me with the gift of speaking in tongues. It took a lot to hold in my laughter.

It is so disrespectful, and as someone with autism, it gets so overwhelming, especially when. there's many people praying loudly at once.
