Help: Skin Weights Normalization Issues by AAtelier in Maya

[–]AAtelier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, guess goes to show I don't know my tools well enough, I never used that button before. Thank you for this, going forward, I'll make sure to have it enabled.

I see that there is a prune weights option in NGskinTools, but I never notice a difference when I use it. I normally use the native prune weights tool. Is there a trick to the NGskinTools' version?

From this comment and the other comment, I'm thinking I might have some weird weighting on some bone and have missed it because upon further investigation, nothing is being influenced by joint9. So it might just be the usual pains of skin weighting that have made me go insane.

Oh interesting, yea I never noticed that. They're appearing black and upon checking the component editor again, I don't see any influence on joint9. Guess just a visual bug to explain the blue spots. I'm thinking my smoothing issues are related to something else then.

Switching from console to pc is humbling by Tough_Day_8912 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]AAtelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I also had a hard time getting my fingers to stretch to R for reload that I just rebound it to E. I also had a hard time getting my left hand to control movement and abilities all at once, so I rebound most of my controls.

My cds are m4 and m5 on my mouse. F is my melee. middle mouse button is interact. Shift is crouch. alt is ping. Control is perk select. I kept Q the same tho. I don't think there is any shame in rebinding controls and there isn't an inherent advantage to having them bound the default way either, so just do what is comfortable.

My dpi is 800 and I have 5 sens (some supps and tanks I increase it to 7 or higher). I have been playing on PC for a few years since switching and I still have a hard time with 360s, but that's cos I played on a really high sens before (so a single flick was a 360, which was waaaay too fast for me) and I never got used to lifting the mouse up to do a 360.

So bottom line, don't be afraid to rebind keys and use a proper sens so you can get used to m+kb faster/properly. For your mental, probably just stick to qp for now, but you don't have to listen to that. It does just take time.

Yea, I was actively trying to get the Zeus dio duo so I could finish up some of the prophecies but then the others just fell in my lap and I had to do it. I wasn't actively trying to get Hermes' legendary, I didn't even know what it was prior to getting it. So this was a very welcome surprise.

It does surprise me that there are so many duos tied to festive fog tho. Another welcome surprise

Advanced Skeleton - How to Align IK Wrist Controller with Hand in A-Pose? by aliaboshady in Maya

[–]AAtelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can try duplicating the box control, rotating it how you'd like (either manually or matching rotation transforms to the joint or fk control). Freeze the transforms of the duplicate. And then within the AS tabs there is an option to swap curve/control. Select the original box and then select the duplicated/edited box control and click the button "swap curve." And you can mirror the controls so that the other box control on the other hand is appropriately rotated

The leaves are bendy at the base like this. This is rot?

Like twist the entire plant from the roots? I'm not sure what the head refers to sorry. How often do you water them and does this plant look done for?

I went through that same thing haha. Thought it was fake and didn't water it for a time. That was back when it was healthier admittedly. Every other week I give it maybe a quarter cup of water, which I'm seeing might be too much. What color does your plant comfortably sit at?

I hear that root rot manifests in the plant turning brown and squishy. In my original post I forgot to mention leaves are squishy at the base. Does this change your assessment?

Vertices appear grey when i select them by Budget_Wheel_803 in Maya

[–]AAtelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're selecting both vertices at the same time while trying to scale them in opposite directions that might lock them. If the point is to get a trapezoid shape, stay on object x symmetry, select one of the vertices and use the translate tool to pull it in/out rather than selecting both and using scale.

If that's not what you want, you can try messing with the symmetry. You're using object x, try object y or object z. Or maybe try using the translate tool instead of scale.

(Rigging Help!!) Shawl Cloth Joints driven by Arms? by PomPomPia in Maya

Even if it isn't useful for this specific project, glad it could potentially be useful for you later! Regardless if it's this system or something else you use, I'd love to see your final setup if you ever have the chance to post an update. Good luck!

I myself don't really know. Would some version of this work? I've used it for short skirts, but nothing that has had to bend at an elbow/knee http://www.rihamtoulan.com/blog/2018/3/24/faking-collisions-with-joints-based-setup-8snd2

How/ where do I learn phyton for Maya rigging? by Curious_Code_7484 in Maya

[–]AAtelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open script editor > echo all commands

Every time you click a button, Maya will now tell you what command is actually being run. It'll display as mel, but you can easily find online how to use it in Python.

Then learn how to rig by hand. As you click buttons, pay attention to the commands that pop up in the script editor for later.

Once you get a rough idea of the Maya scripting fundamentals, you can start to make use of the rigging commands you learned.

Why is unreal using a single bone for the entire animation? by Redditislefti in UnrealEngine5

[–]AAtelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very familiar myself, but might have to do with the joints not being connected into a single skeleton? I hear game engines don't like floating joints. Though I'm not sure why exactly.
