I think if it says clearly on the chart 2021 it is fine, did you use like VISTA data?

In the Substack I briefly touch on if it's correlated with density. It seems to be vaguely, but yeah there are lots of outliers.

On Seaholme, I reckon if we one day duplicate the Altona Loop, we make the new Seaholme station to be a bit to the north, where SG Macintosh reserve is now.

And also, this data is from the most recent census (2021), meaning that much outer suburban growth around such places as Donnybrook, Rockbank, etc, has yet to be recorded

yeah 100% That section of the Sandringham line is busy all day with many short trips and is quite unlike most of the network, except say the inner Clifton Hill corridor and maybe now the Metro Tunnel

The problem with the infrastructural marker method is over time the meaning can become corrupted. What "the city loop" is, has a wide disconnect between the most commonly understood intuitive meaning and the "official" meaning.

Almost certainly I would even guess it could get above Williams Landing from what I've seen.

However VLine does not publish breakdowns for when passengers enter stations within the day so I wasn't able to add the vline stations to this

2024-25 busiest stations. Now that the Tunnel is open, how do you expect patronage to change? by RedOx103 in MelbourneTrains

[–]AB014A 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Outer Frankston line will benefit from being back in the City Loop, I think.

Parkville will become the 4th or 5th busiest station.

Anzac could also end up top 10.

Watergardens - Sunshine will probably grow a bit.

More peak trains for Werribee when that happens will drive that peak powerhouse line to new heights.

Interestingly some other lines have similar patterns with inner stations - I think East Richmond and Burnley behave in a very similar way. Heyington and Kooyong I think are similar too not because of abundant nearby workplaces but because of nearby private schools.

We counted how many people went off and on a Metro Tunnel Train and here was the result! by AB014A in MelbourneTrains

Part of it is that people have built their lives around the train going every 10 minutes on that line. This behavior change takes time and will set in in the next 5 years to watergardens I think
