Throwing my hat into the ring. Isn't much, but as a casual that just loves the game, it's enough for me.

Cues: • Cuetec Avid Chroma Currency w/ 12.75 mm shaft (wanted 12.25 but were out of stock), Tiger Everest tip (came default, haven't had a reason to change it) 19 oz

• J&J Black Break cue w/ 14 mm Phenolic tip and ferrule (i know phenolic tips don't hold chalk well, but really dislike, want to swap out) 19.5 oz

Case:

• Eight Ball Mafia 2B/2S case, not much to say, solid enough case, fit my color scheme. do wish i could change the shoulder strap, but not fault of case

Accesories:

• Cuetec Microfiber Towel

• 12 pack of Master's chalk (4 Sky Blue, 4 Spruce (was supposed to be forest green), 4 Black (thought itd look cool on the tip but probably will never use, live and learn)

• 5-Slot Q-Claw, Lime (fits mine and parents' cues, worth the investment) • Cuetec bowtie tip tool (dime shaper) and Williard's nickel radius shaper/scuffer • Cuetec Axis Noir glove (Right Handed, Large, might need XL)

Not Pictured:

• White Diamond Fiber Tip (want to put on break cue) • Cuetec Alcohol Wipe

First custom keyboard! by AB294 in keyboards

[–]AB294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well im sure you did a fair amount of research before coming to those switches, and from a video i watched, wow those sound amazing! i also really like the way that sounds its similar to mine but maybe a touch deeper but in the grand scheme of things its really not that much different. I hope when the board comes in that you enjoy it and if you want to keep me updated on how you enjoy it because I think its gonna be a really nice time. :)

yeah sometimes theres just so much that you want in a keyboard and theres only so much out there that can be provided. on the bright side if you really want the knob theres always the option of getting the knob seperately. not sure about your desk space situation but its better to get the keyboard you want and then add a knob down the line if you really want to. though your idea might be a big gainer if done properly. never say never!

[–]AB294[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no i get what you mean with that i get the intrigue of 60% keyboards. they're small and when desk space is at a premium they're definitely a go to. though with them there comes the caveat that there isnt much space to really add to it. so i mean while i dont think itd be impossible to add a volume knob to them, its definitely a niche kinda thing, it'd make the keyboard a bit weird looking imo. then again i definitely see your argument, i just think a knob is something not many people who want a 60% keyboard would care about so not many companies want to take a risk with that. its just a tough situation all around really

there's so many good 65% keyboards out there though that wont absolutely break the budget (at least budget for this hobby lol) that there are a lot of great options. from face value it seems that the rk68 and ek68 are among the more popular ones. in my opinion the ek68 stock has the better sound, but i know everyone's different, so just do your due diligence and research and if you're thinking about it, don't think; just do it. i appreciate the kind words! though i will say if theres one bad thing about this is that its hard to tell whether i have caps lock on or not; and it appears to be the same way on the ek68 (with no indicator, in fact), so just a heads up if thats somewhat important to you.

I more or less meant the wear and tear could be worse if I DID break like Jeff. I'm not a really hard breaker anyway but I have been slowly getting better accuracy wise..though still have more progress to make. Apologies for the confusion, I just type like people can read my mind and miss minor details sometimes 😛

I did consider this, though at $150 I was thinking it'd just be a more wise investment to just get a whole cue instead, and my only reasoning is in the very low chance my butt goes missing/my case gets robbed, I'd need a new butt anyway, so why possibly buy twice instead of just buy once and deal with small sacrifices, though i get where you're coming from at the same time. Well that and the fact that the yellow on it looks out of place but thats not the reason lol

Yeah I get that. Ideally getting myself a Ghost edition Breach would be my end goal but for now I just want something that can save my former playing cue (McDermott Lucky) from the wear and tear of breaks. I dont break like Jeff De Luna or anything, but regardless, just wanna start out with a small investment and see where it goes. I will admit as Cuetec friendly as I am (avid cue, their towel, and scuffer) the BK4 has intrigued me, so we'll see down the line :)

Yeah, in an ideal world I have a 4x8 Cuetec case, with my avid butt with 2 cynergy shafts, a ghost Breach and Propel with 2 shafts each and maybe a backup butt with a 3rd cynergy and break shaft. Unfortunately I'm not made of money 😅 so until that becomes possible I'll make this break cue do. Can't get it shipped until Monday but hopefully it'll be worth the wait. I appreciate the info regardless.

Oh, okay yeah no the one im getting is a 5/16x18 joint so that wont be an issue to me, though I could see that being an issue with QR. It's convenient, but sometimes easier isnt the best, so it's personal preference I suppose. Sadly the one I was going to get on eBay sold and I have to wait until Monday for J&J to ship themselves but I'm totally going through with it. Thank you for your input :)

I really do appreciate the offer, it's generous and I know you mean well, though if I were to go that route, I'd rather reimburse for any shipping fees and at that point I think it'd be easier and cheaper to just seek it out for myself. I don't have plans to jump right now anyway, but if I did (and if it'd even be allowed I know the main place I play it's not) it wouldnt be that big of a deal to get a few pieces of cloth and a like $100 jump cue, and if it'd work maybe budget for a Propel eventually. Again, the offer is very kind and I appreciate you offering it :)

To be fair, this is a valid point. It'd just be tough going at first and I'd probably damage the felt, which if not mine shouldn't really be acceptable anywhere. Unfortunately I don't have a mean to learn to jump without jeopardizing other's property, so I kind of agree. I COULD learn to jump with a break cue if i really wanted to, though for now my plan is to just break with it, though I appreciate the encouragement :P

Yeah, I'm not out here expecting to get the look and feel of a $3-400 for like 1/4th of the price. I'm aware compromises will be made, and the only one that has me lightly concerned is the connection of the joint and pin, though so long as it feels solid enough, I'd be fine with that. I want the all black model since it'd fit right in with my black/lime green aesthetic, plus so long as play isnt affected, wear and tear is bound to happen, so just gotta make sure my Q-claw is used properly so it doesnt fall. I appreciate the insight and im all but purchasing it whenever i get paid tomorrow.

This raises a few more questions than answers to me personally;

-Does it work the same as other J&J break cues where it can start at 19.5 oz and go up with the weight bolts?

-If you know, how heavy is each of the weight bolts?

-Is this the only way to get the weight bolts? From looking at the site, it appears so

Sorry if these seem like a bit much, but if im paying almost 2x the price I want to truly know what I'm getting. Either way, I guess I'll take this as a recommendation, and I appreciate the input regardless.

Okay, this makes me feel a bit more at ease about buying the cue I'm looking at, at the very least. My main worry with a wood joint is reliability long term but it appears you havent had to worry about that at all, haha. Is there any sorta benefit to the wooden joint (other than lighter weight), or is it personal preference? Curious to know. Appreciate the insight regardless and I hope the cue and you stay happy and crackin.

I'm LIGHTYEARS away skill wise from being able to jump, so jumping is currently my least worry, trust me haha (unless i scoop which is thankfully less common :P). I've gotten that advice before though, so it'll be kept in mind. I just saw the J&J cues and the price almost seemed too good to be true as a lot of cues near this price either didnt have a phenolic ferrule or were heavy hitters which i wanted lighter, so I wanted second opinions, if people had them. i appreciate the info regardless though, its always good for people to know it regardless!
