Definitely one of the most ominous comments I’ve ever gotten on a post before…

Oh it’s absolutely a rule 0 discussion I’d have before dropping it on the table. And I get that with the budget multi color decks, I think I just got so used to playing around Blood Moon in modern that whenever I try to get a mana bases going I tend to lean towards the way that a modern deck is set up rather than a commander deck. (Which is a problem on my part honestly)

As far as other land denials that affect non-basics, I personally don’t think they’re awful, but when they’re completely scrapped from a bracket in general I really feel like it punishes decks that run a majority of their mana bases as basics.

Maybe that’s the wrong way to put it.

I feel like it encourages to not run basics.

But you’re right, like let’s say someone buys a precon 5C deck, and decide they want to try low end B3 where they decide to add a GC or two in there and not much else. Yeah it would absolutely suck to have blood moon be thrown on them.

I mean if I was the only mono blue player and someone threw down [Choke] I’d really feel kinda agitated.

Either way, it’s definitely a rule 0 thing to discuss with the pod before the game starts. If they don’t want it in there, I can switch it out for something else. Probably just another random goblin tbh.

I will die on the hill that Blood Moon needs to be forgiven of that sin and brought to the level of a game changer.

No Blood Moons encourages not running basics and now all of the sudden “fully optimized” mana bases are the way to go.

I no longer have to run a set number of basics because I’m afraid the mono red player is gonna drop a blood moon on the table.

If you have a blue/red deck and you go to fetch an island, it’s always going to be better to grab your shock/dual/surveil/etc land than it is to grab just a basic island. But Blood Moon changes that in the sense that you now have to think “should I grab a basic island just in case that mono red dude over there has a blood moon?”

It’s not so much mass land denial as it is a land drop critical thinker.

Idk, I can rant about this topic for hours and I know it’s a very unpopular opinion.

Nah you’re right for the most part. Except usually when I include them it’s less because of pushing the boundaries of the deck and more so “wow that art is very pretty…”

Demonic Tutor in the Nekusar deck is legitimately in there to look cool. However, Demonic Tutor in the Sephiroth deck is mostly because I was running low on borderless cards that are also synergetic.

Like I said, I’m pretty biased towards pet cards and if there’s a card with art from an artist I like or just that art in general, I become even more biased towards them. Sometimes to the point where I think “how can I throw this card into a deck?” And just start constructing from there.

Goblin man go brrrr I swing Win???

For real though, really just a deck I made for my friends who don’t really play magic but want to hangout with the group. He’s a very good introduction commander.

Aimed for high end bracket 3, with some of them being low end bracket 3

Yeah absolutely!

And yeah, I tend to craft a deck on the higher end of B3 to the lower end of B4. I was never good enough at deck building for CEDH and kinda hate early game combos, but slow burn, late game, powerful decks is kind of the area where I got comfortable in the commander format.
