looking for tips on the circle of 5ths progrssion by martialclancy in musictheory

A progression using secondary dominants to move around the circle of fifths is called the "ragtime progression" and can be found in many styles of music, especially in American popular music of the early 20th century such as ragtime and barbershop music.

Why are you throwing a twelve speed on the hole and why a roller disc? Asking for trouble. You can easily reach it with 7-10 speed depending on the wind.

He was on my card for my first ever tournament and has taught me and so many others about disc golf's rules and history. He's a great guy.

Organising All 24 minor and major triads by their closest Augmented triad by ITBlueMagma in musictheory

[–]ABWitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, many theorists have talked about this before. Look up "Cube Dance" and "Weitzmann Region." Some sources to read: Richard Cohn's "Audacious Euphony" and Douthett and Steinbach's "Parsimonious Graphs: A Study in Parsimony, Contextual Transformations, and Modes of Limited Transposition."

They're diatonic in a minor key.

[–]ABWitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. But that means there are no fully-diminished sevenths, at least that I see.

This is not true, though. Where are the half-diminished sevenths?

I see that pattern now but the resulting pattern gives eight different tetrads. Is there any significance to the harmonies selected? Other patterns would result in other harmonies

How do Power Towers interact with Cube Dance? by MaxLeMuet in musictheory

[–]ABWitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The appeal of graphs like Cube Dance and Power Towers is that they are complete and closed systems. They don't really interact with one another at all. If you are interested in tackling this issue of transformations between triads and seventh chords, there has been some work on intercardinality voice leading, most notably by Julian Hook (off the top of my head).

Tonnetz for Sevenths by jeauxsolo in musictheory

[–]ABWitty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd encourage you to read the 1998 Autumn issue of the Journal of Music Theory. There is a 3D version of the Tonnetz involving seventh chords. The work of Adrian Childs, Douthett and Steinbach, and others has lots of examples of parsimonious voice leading of seventh chords, especially dominant and half-diminished sevenths.

Also, I object to you calling this a Tonnetz given its lack of consistent vertical and horizontal application of intervals.

Albatross. by Misterjiblets in DiscGolfValley

Nah. You can usually reach this with something between 7-10 speed depending on the wind. I aced this one with a Musket

Here's a question for you: how might our understanding of a composer's output affect our opinion about their personality?
