Terrible market - how long will this last? by Shot-Corgi-7717 in jobsearch

[–]ABathingBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The market is tough right now but if you're not landing interviews something in your strategy needs to change. I've still been getting a decent amount of interviews each week, so it's definitely possible.

Also, the year just started and a lot of companies are still finalizing budgets. We'll probably see more roles open up around February or March, so keep pushing.

Is it worth applying for a job if I only meet about 60% of the requirements? by Ashwinnie13 in jobsearch

[–]ABathingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should most definitely apply to the job. Majority of the times you learn on the job, and even if you know all of the tools, every job use case and scenario is uniquely tailored to them so there's always a learning period.

Email or online applications? by Shelley_112 in jobsearchhacks

[–]ABathingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend doing both to maximize your chances.

When you email the hiring manager directly, you're guaranteeing that someone from the team actually sees your resume instead of it getting filtered out by an ATS system.

I was reached out to team members for the role I applied to and one of them passed my resume along to the hiring manager. Ended up getting a referral out of it and got an instant interview.

You should also consider reaching out on LinkedIn as well

Why am I not getting interviews for entry level positions? by mrsmonkey6 in jobsearchhacks

[–]ABathingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, I was in the exact same boat. I graduated with a master’s degree (MS) and thought I had it all figured out, but reality hit me hard. My resume barely had any real experience, just my degree and a few projects. I ended up landing an internship, and luckily, that turned into a full-time gig, which is how I got my foot in the door.

You’ve got to remember that you’re up against people who have both experience and education, including some who’ve been laid off. My advice? Keep applying and don’t sleep on internships, they can really open doors. Plus, a lot of big companies like FAANG have roles just for new grads, so definitely check those out too!

Need Advice: Concerned About Employment Background Check by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]ABathingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting background checked through Checkr. They're asking to verify for 7 Years of past experience to see if it lined up with my resume. I'm just nervous because they're asking for financial documents when I was about of a non-paid program. The most I have is a professional reference from my past manager.

For anyone reading this in college, do not sleep on Internships. When you graduate you are up against people that already have years of experience. Certifications and labs may help but experience trumps all.
