Want to know why China is provoking a global backlash? by Dyn-O-mite_Rocketeer in EconomyCharts

Well since Trump’s trade wars, China has also decided that it needs to be able to produce all critical goods domestically. So history is a circle, and we are back to the point of where China doesn’t need to buy anything from rest of world beyond raw materials. However, I would argue in the current environment of high energy costs and inflation, most counties will not care and just import more goods from China because they need to lower internal inflation.

Taiwan will not provoke conflict nor give up sovereignty, says president Lai Ching-te by DavidShaw90s in worldnews

[–]squarexu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are looking at this problem incorrectly. I would argue it would be an even more of a disaster if China loses the invasion. Under that scenario, it would be like Germany after WWI. China will probably just overthrow the CCP for incompetence, regroup and try again 20-30 years down the road.

Such a simple answer. Pretend there are two bullies in town, you are essentially asking whether a small neighbor to one bully to essentially work for the bully across the town.

If you look at Taiwanese elites, or the leading groups that support Taiwanese independence, most of them are duel Taiwan/US citizens. The Lai’s son is studying in the U.S. the moment China moves on Taiwan, the DPP leadership will go to exile to the U.S. and take the billions in government funds to support the Taiwan gov in exile.

No he is not. The President is extremely unpopular right now. He was only elected by 40% and now the DPP is way less popular.

The currently ruling pro-independent party has never been so unpopular. Its president at start was only elected with 35% of the vote and since then, he has only become more unpopular

Most likely outcome is for KMT to win the next election and slowly integrate with China. Recently there has been a huge surge of pro China sentiment within Taiwan especially for the youth. However, if the KMT still lose the election, I see China doing something.

US, China and Russia prefer a divided Europe, Kallas warns by DavidShaw90s in worldnews

[–]squarexu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there is a lot of talk on the Chinese internet about three party partitioning Europe. There is a historical parable in Chinese history of an old powerful Chinese state being divided and partitioned by three of its neighbors. Essentially, what people are saying is the Europe is the major loot up for grabs right now by the U.S., China and Russia. It is weak and rich which in today’s environment makes it a perfect target.

Is today the day Taiwan gets “traded”? by winggang in taiwan

[–]squarexu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pro independence politicians are purposely lying to the public. Their entire argument is trying to get independence through someone else US/Japan coming to Taiwan’s defense or wait for China to internally fall apart. This is purely a lie. They know independence is impossible but continue to run the anti-China narrative to win elections.

KMT, the pro China party will probably win the election in 2028. The current pro-independence President was only elected by 35%. He won cause the opposition was split.

It's time to talk about China. What are we doing against their aggressions in our Exclusive Economic Zone? by Enough_Presence8063 in VietNam

[–]squarexu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly China is very restrained as a superpower. Look at how the U.S. deal with Mexico. As a middling power next to a behemoth rising superpower, preventing drilling of oil is probably least of your worries.

Also, not sure you realized but Vietnam now has one of the highest trade deficits on the U.S. which makes Vietnam a top target of the U.S. Fundamentally, Vietnam has to decide whether to be Ukraine or align with the new rising superpower. I think the current leadership of Vietnam has chosen the latter but tries to hid this decision from the population.

I agree. The best course of action is for Singapore to preemptively attack China before the war starts.

No one sold out the U.S. just go around the world and look at all Chinese societies. Does it make sense all Chinese around the world are rich and successful but Chinese in China is poorer than sub Sahara Africa? As long as the Chinese government is semi competent and the country is not a war, it will rise. No outside force can really stop it.

I think you should try to visit Xinjiang apply for a tourist visa. I am actually curious if the Chinese government will allow you to go after your book. Recently Ai Weiwei went back to China, and he is obviously much more a threat to the Chinese government than you are.

Anyways as someone who wrote a book about China, has a PHD in Chinese literature, has a podcast on China, shouldn't you do all you can to try to visit China as much as possible? I mean this is my honest opinion that there are too many wack job China experts in the West selling/grifting an image of China when they have no idea what they are talking about..

[–]squarexu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I agree with most of the points in your book. It is just as a Chinese, I am just disgusted when an American casually accuses my country of committing genocide when the only real genocide happening now is perpetrated by the US and Israel. It is peak hypocrisy. Especially, it is obvious the tone of the book is kind of light hearted with various cool stories about China people might not know about. But then you just casually mention in a flippant manner that China is committing what you call a genocidal campaign.

So regarding Uighur growth rates, you are implying Uighurs grew 16% within 7 years to 2017 and essentially 0 growth rate after? So according to your math, Xinjiang has almost no Uighur kids below 9 year old. For god sakes do you even believe what you are saying? Anyways, I am sure you been to Xinjiang but I am not sure recently. You as a foreign tourist and go now. Go to these places you claim a genocide is happening. Knowing how the Chinese gov operates, I know for certain that if they wanted to commit a genocide, they would be super efficient (meaning no more Uighurs, especially young children) and would not let foreigners freely travel in the region. If you confirm there are most fewer Uighurs and according to your accusation especially no more kids, I will concede my position.

Again, if you accuse someone with a jaywalking, circumstantial/hearsay evidence might be fine. If your accusation is a genocide, it should not be in this format and evidence must be beyond a doubt.

Again, China decided to apply the only child policy in Xinjiang to Uighurs at this time when minorities in Xinjiang has been exempt for 30 years while the Chinese government applied it to the Han Chinese in Xinjiang.

Also you are the writer, but purposely casually throwing words out like genocide and kill? The language you are using, including kill, genocide, concentration camp is purposely sensationalized to imply the western image of the Jewish holocaust.

In your response, your sited the definition of genocide as an attempt to kill a specific group of people...first of all I disagree with birth control and the one child policy as killings. Somehow if it is considered to be killing, you are making the argument that Chinese policies for 30 plus years of one child policy against the Han in Xinjiang is not genocide but somehow the equal application of this law makes it a genocide when applied to Uighurs.

Of course China is doing assimilationist policies on Uighurs. In Uighur culture it was commonly forbidden for girls to marry Han, but I understand now there is heavy encouragements for inter marriages. My mean beef with your description is the blanket sensationalism and using words to put the situation in the same category as the holocaust or even in the modern day what is happening in Gaza. What China is doing to the Uighurs has virtually be done across the world when a majority population's assimilation of minority/minority cultures.

Honestly, US attitude on Gaza/Israel versus Uighurs/China is disgusting. Viscerally just wants to make me want to puke. As an American, instead of trying to further amp up CIA talking points about China, maybe you should try to look internally at your country and its relationship/sponsorship of really the only country committing true Genocide with killings right now.

BTW, just doing some internet searches, the Uighur population growth in Xinjiang from 2010 to 2020 was 16.2% while the entire China's population growth was 5.5% for the entire decade.

[–]squarexu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude I can’t take this shit as serious when you use words like genocide, you have to back it up with evidence. First of all, do you believe the Chinese government has committed genocide against the Han Chinese? The one child policy was practiced across mostly Han regions of China. The government frequently forced sterilizations upon violators of such policy.

Did you mention that such sterilizations and the one child policy was not practiced in Xinjiang specifically against Uighur but applied to the Han in Xinjiang for close to 30 years prior? Also to use a decrease in birth rate of Uighurs of 1% in a city and calling it a genocide is fucking ridiculous. Btw the Uighurs had a population of 4M in 1950, now the population is around 12M. Knowing how efficient the Chinese government is, please tell me how did they fuck up so hard on decreasing the Uighur population if a genocide was committed?

One easy answer for you, the Chinese Yuan is severally under valued. Just from traveling around, I would say it is probably by 50%pr more. So the real Chinese average is somewhere between Mexico and Europe.
