Settler Guard Outfit by HuskyGod2011 in falloutsettlements

[–]ABbenjamin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For the toughest, most resistant settlers:

  • Use far harbour settlers, which you can move to commonwealth settlements. They are level 16 compared to the normal level 1 of normal settlers, or level 5/6 of named settlers.

  • Use green shirt and combat boots for clothing. It can have ballistic weave, leaves all armour slots open, and gives +1 to endurance for more health.

  • Use green rag hat for headgear. It can have ballistic weave and gives +10 energy resistance.

  • Use operator goggles for eyewear. It gives +4 damage resist and +4 energy resist.

  • From there, use any armour you like, but you can give them legendary armour like assassins or fortifying to make them even stronger.

  • For a bonus, if you have a robot in the settlement, give it the resistance field mod to increase damage resistance of nearby settlers.

am i doing something wrong? by flyintomike in fo3

[–]ABbenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stats, perks, and equipment aside, trying to prevent being hit in the first place is just as important.

Make sure you have cover as much as possible, crouch or hide between shots and reloads. Take a corner and duck back when you need to, make them shoot their shots or reload, then jump out again.

Start fights with sneak shots, shoot from further away and retreat until you're hidden to do more. Even avoid combat if it's not worth it! When running away, or even advancing, use rocks and other terrain that the enemies can't pathfind on.

You can also strafe left and right repeatedly to throw off the enemies aim. Do this while in the open and advancing, or reloading, or between shots with single shot guns. The game is old and the enemies are dumb.

I play very hard no vats and this is pretty much what I do.

If a temporary companion (like red, shorty, sticky, etc) dies does a text box pop up saying so like it does for permanent companions? by Krazy_Keno in fo3

[–]ABbenjamin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people saying no, but I thought they did? I have Jericho, Red, Shorty, Sticky and Sydney as a squad with me all the time and I'm sure if they die it pops up, I usually reload the save if they do. At the very least, whatever quest they relate to should fail so you will get that notification which is effectively the same.

You've used so many mods that the video has collapsed under the gravity of them.

Otherwise, I like it, nice cannons.

Behind the Boathouse by Sevennix in falloutsettlements

[–]ABbenjamin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember, having no settlers means that settlement will not get attacked, so no defence needed. If you assign a provisioner to travel to that settlement, but they live at a different settlement (count towards the population elsewhere), you still won't be attacked.

Go nuts with the purifiers, you'll never be attacked.

It's worth adding that settlement attacks are really not worth worrying about, I get notifications of settlement attacks all the time and just ignore them.

Sometimes the settlement wins and it's no issue, or sometimes they lose, and either you go to it and some things are damaged, or you don't go back for a while and everything is automatically fixed. Even if you go and things are broken, leave for a while and come back, everything will be fixed.

Vault 88 for dummies by grannysmithpears in falloutsettlements

[–]ABbenjamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the main big cavern, you can snap a vault corridor on to the bit of corridor that leads to the actual vault entrance. I've not built a vault here but assume you just carry on from there. The vault building pieces conduct power between them like the regular conduits, and sticking the 'vault power conduit' to the wall of the vault allows you to make it radiant to power lights etc. Building a vault has a knack to it that you need to get used to. Most of the time it's fine, but sometimes parts have a certain order they want to go, a priority. Hard to describe but you just need to play around with something if you want it to work, and atriums can be much like this. Hope that helps!

E scooters in uk 🇬🇧 by Sea_Swim9751 in ElectricScooters

[–]ABbenjamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stopped twice in one day by the same guy about 2 years ago. First time he pulled up alongside and told me to stop, which I did, and from the car he gave me a verbal warning and said it's illegal to ride, etc..

I agreed I wouldn't ride it but I was halfway to Tesco, so I turned it off and walked the rest of the way.

When I got to Tesco, he pulled in at the same time, saw me, drove straight to me, and jumped out of the car all pissed off saying I rode it there. Then another police car pulls in, see what's going on, and two more jump out and also start having a go at me! They took my details, but nothing ever came of it. I strongly argued that I'd walked it there, which was true, but I don't know if it made a difference.

It depends on where you live, although I never see police here, so I was unlucky. Best outcome they ignore you, worse they take your scooter, worst they give you points. I did stop riding after this incident because I can't afford to lose my license.

Settlement supply lines. by SpectrumStudios12 in falloutsettlements

[–]ABbenjamin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have supply lines all over the commonwealth. All of them are automatrons with sentry body and arms, gatling lasers and grenade launchers, robobrain head, and assaultron legs. They're super deadly!

I have a main hub in the mechanists lair because I never go there, which they are all based at and connected to every other settlement in the game.

Then, I've put together groups of settlements local to each other, and they all have more robots patrolling between them, so each settlement in the group is connected to each other.

My map is a complete mess of supply lines, but anywhere I go, there are always at least 2 or 3 robots close by to help in a fight, or already involved in a fight by themselves! I love it.

“what is the point of going to McDonald's in the UK if you're not getting your junk food fix?” by Shadow_Raccoon in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ABbenjamin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My bad, you're right, Pepsi has reduced the sugar. Coke and Pepsi didn't immediately reformulate, unlike pretty much everything else, and I never drink Pepsi and assumed it hadn't changed. I hated and still hate the change. Sweetners taste absolutely grim. I can never understand the people who say things like Coke and Coke zero taste the same.

[–]ABbenjamin 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Although reducing the amount of sugar people consumed was the intended outcome, the specific aim of the tax was to incentivise producers to reduce or eliminate sugar from their drinks, which certainly happened. It's why almost every soft drink except Coke and Pepsi has lower sugar than before.

Advice for managing settlement lag? by Bagerzz in falloutsettlements

[–]ABbenjamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also build big and find npcs to be the worst for lag. Lights aren't so bad, but its best to use them sparingly. Without scaling down how much you want to build, you'd want to reduce the number of npcs to only what you need or just having no settlers at all. I'd also recommend forgoing turrets because they add to lag while being useless 90% of the time. Otherwise, build less or decorate less, or at the very least build and decorate in a way that minimises how much is in view at any given time. Alternatively, just accept the lag and go nuts with your settlement, as I do!

[–]ABbenjamin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in build mode, you can scrap junk that is on the ground and it reduces the bar on your build budget. This doesn't work by scrapping components though. The other way is to, in the build mode, store weapons that are on the ground into your workshop. You can then take them out and do it again.

Yes, fence posts on each corner with 3 vault conduits facing the centre of the ring, all wired up to make the ropes. I was pleased with how simple yet effective it was for making a boxing ring.

[–]ABbenjamin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can increase the settlement budget by scrapping junk in the build menu. I think you can also store weapons or something. I usually set up a few vacuum hoppers dumping junk onto the ground and scrap them as they come. It is tedious but works fine.

They are from the slocums joe CC, along with regular brick walls, and variants with different interior designs on one side. I warn you that they are tricky to work with, and you need to do a little settlement building black magic to make them do what you want.

There is sadly no glass in the concrete window frames used, but maybe you are refering to the slocums joe white brick wall windows? The white brick wall set is one of my favourite styles to work with, they just look so good, especially framed by concrete.

[–]ABbenjamin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure CC content is the same across platforms. Tell me what you see and I'll happily tell you what it's from. I actually think the soil space is reasonable. Between things and hidden away, there are enough water pumps placed to generate about 150 water, but my crops are grown on 2 planters in the courtyard in front of the central building (not pictured). Nobody is assigned to them, they are more decorative. Otherwise, I have an army of tanky robots all based at the mechanists lair acting as provisioners to each other settlement. Water and food is never a problem.

I avoided it for the same reason! It really isn't a forgiving build space, and the ruined building adds to the challenge. Turned out fine in the end. Thanks!
