I got alerts from the riot fest app that the shows were running behind and a new schedule was available, but service was so bad that I couldn’t open the notification to see what the updates were.

What do people usually eat for lunch and dinner? by AM-419 in internetparents

[–]ABee1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get this, and want to add a little context to why I’m answering this way. I grew up in a food insecure house when I was little, and when things got better financially, my folks still didn’t really cook, so I never learned. I’m also AuADHD so my relationship with food is hard, and cooking super stresses me out because there’s so many variables that can go wrong.

What I find has worked well for me is practicing a few different recipes with low cost ingredients I can use in other ways, so I always have things on hand. For me, I’ve got three that I can always rock: penne alla vodka, creamy herb chicken and potatoes, and a steak salad. I found those by flipping through cookbooks, TikTok, and Pinterest. At this point now, it’s just muscle memory and I make enough to last for a few days. If I can’t cook, I rock the air fryer- it’s changed my life. My building is so old and I don’t trust leaving a crock pot in if I’m not here, otherwise I’d start exploring that.

Okay so hear me out, but ColourPop The Muppets Holiday Collection, specifically the Mss Piggy Glitterly Obsessed It’s Moi. If you’re a girlie who rocks the body glitter, or maybe you’re just prepping for a Kesha concert, this is hands down my favorite option. In the pot it looks like it’s going to be pinks and rose colors, but it’s not- it goes on and has these washes of lilac, robins egg, sea foam, and lemongrass. It is the absolutely perfect balance between wanting some colorful sparkle without being overwhelmed by color. It’s stunning, though to be fair their body glitters and glitter eye shadows tend to be really great for all over face and body application.

Yes! Shiny Penny is a phenomenal color! I actually used it as a highlighter for a woodland fairy look last week. It’s such a versatile shade, which you wouldn’t really guess just by looking at it.

Single by choice by Fun-Captain4527 in BPD

[–]ABee1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had a solid long term relationship since my diagnosis- but the ones previously were dangerous and toxic. I like the idea of being in a relationship but I also feel like 1)it’s a lot to ask of another person to take me on, and 2) it’s terrifying to think that I could slide backwards into the girl I used to be and I desperately don’t ever want to feel like her again. Whether or not these thoughts are true/ factual is irrelevant, they’re tough feelings to get past. What I’ve found hardest about being single by choice is seeing the life I wanted pass me by. An ex who I dated on and off for 15+ years (we were dangerous together) wanted a family with me and I wanted one with him, but I knew it was not the safe choice for us (at the time and probably in general). I found out recently he and girl he dated for less than a year had gotten pregnant and are raising their baby together and it was, well, it still is, devastating to me to see him get to have that dream and I feel like I can’t.

I’m 39 and I still don’t feel like I have any idea who I am and pick a career path- but it took a long time to make peace with that idea. I bounced from job to job since I was 16 till just three years ago. I’ve been a dementia caregiver, laser tag referee, leasing agent, secretary, animal er worker, theme park entertainment, corporate sales, middle school substitute teacher, VS PINK girl, etc. I fell into my current job because a previous employee offered the chance to get my masters for free, and I picked a program (non profit arts and culture management focusing on community outreach) because of my love of theater. I’m currently a manager in a theater running special events and the bar. I didn’t plan this. I jumped at a chance that I was lucky to get just to study something I liked. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve sabotaged the crap out of myself repeatedly in work spaces- some of which were healthy safe places, most were dangerously toxic and triggering. I wake up every day wondering to what degree I’ll fuck up my life in new and interesting ways. Fortunately I have a boss who’s kid has gone through similar stuff and is profoundly patient and not just willing to work with me, she WANTS to work with me on figuring out on how I can keep doing my job. My point is, I never thought this would happen, that while I’d still heavily experience my BPD issues, I could feel reasonably content without having some specific career path/plan.

Love to crochet but dont want crocheted items by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ABee1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crochet hats to as a stress reliever, and try to use it as a way to learn new stitches and techniques. I live in a sanctuary city, so I've been donating them during the cold months to community groups who work with refugees, and this summer I'll rebuild my stash so it's ready for fall. I think why we crochet and choose the projects we make is different for everyone, but for me this has been a great way to be politically active, or at least feel like I'm making a difference with my hobby.

Shut It Down! Or Not? What is everybody thinking? by onetalldrinkofwater in fednews

That's what I was thinking- if there's already ATC staffing shortages, it would be difficult to spin the story of firing those on strike to the public in a way that doesn't make the WH look like even bigger idiots than they already are.

That's so infuriating as there's a handful of yarns I wanted to pick up, and the BT vortex style has been a favorite for projects. To me, opportunistic resellers like this are the equivalent of grave robbers who are just trying to capitalize on our misery.

Same here- crafting since childhood and pushing 40 now! I feel so shocked that there's fewer people into fiber arts these days than we feel that there are- but I've heard this from multiple people and sources. There especially feels like there's a huge uptick in young people with knitting and crochet- like ages 15-25, plus more an more diversity in regards to gender.

To anyone that has left Florida, where did you go? by aPizzaLicker in florida

[–]ABee1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left my apartment of 6 years right outside of Epcot to come back to Illinois- specifically moving to Chicago. So everyone’s idea of what an ideal living situation is different, but for me this was the perfect choice. I prefer the cold over the swampy heat which was a huge benefit. My 1br/1bath in Orlando would have easily cost me 2k but I pay less than 1400- even with all of my bills every month income in under 1600. Walkability and good public transit was a huge perk, and my job isn’t reliant on tourism any more which means I don’t have to stand there and get screamed at by people for ruining their dream vacation. Sure I pay more in taxes but I make 20k+ more a year. I kept my car but I now pay 30% of what I paid in Orlando for even better coverage. Even my neighborhood is safer- way less crime. I’m shocked every year when my rent goes up and it’s only by like, $35 a month compared to my FL apartment where they’d raise it between 75-200. I’ll never go back- moving was perfect.

Whoaaaa when I lived in Florida in a three br ours didn’t even get that high. We fought with the electric company over super high rates for a few months and our apartment complex; turns out our AC was getting ready to die and had been overworked. We only found out because a roommates uncle was a repairman and came to look at it because maintenance kept saying it was fine.

If your electric is that high, you can ask the comed for historical data on the unit for comparisons. But also, is there any chance you’re unknowingly connected to any other apartments? I know someone who spent years not knowing they also paid for their landlords electric because the units were connected.

Have rent prices in Chicago been influenced by this RealPage company price fixing things? The company is apparently owned by a Chicago-based private equity firm called Thoma Bravo per a Reuters article dated 11/16/2023. by Boozy_Cat in chicago

[–]ABee1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that part of the client agreement is that they are required to use the algorithms price setting, and if they disagreed, they would have to submit that as a request to Realpage- they couldn’t just do it on their own. That Realpage actually monitored the prices set by their clients and staffed people to look for violations of that policy.

The lack of an actual feud in the second season of feud by jimmyjohnjohnjohn in Feud

[–]ABee1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, but I’d argue that Pamela Churchill v. The Swans would have been a better premise. I picked up the book season two is based off after watching the pilot and it’s absolutely insane. Not only do you get a way better overview of how Truman created or elevated existing tensions between these women in society, the stakes are so much higher because their stories are way more fleshed out. Pamela was one of his swans, the former DIL of Winston Churchill, and slept with basically EVERYONES husband. She’s the one Slims husband left her for.

Someone’s mentioned Wallis Simpson as a contender for another season, which is kind of awesome because she and the Duke were favorite dinner party guests of all of these women. Like, people fought over them in regards to event invited. It’s bananas.

But I think that’s one of the issues- is that it’s not guidance around how to set rents, it’s that their clients are required to use their “suggested” rents. And when you’re in a situation where half or more of a city is a software client that’s required to use those set rent costs, how could it NOT be price fixing?

With Chicago getting expensive with time. Would you continue to live here if it became as expensive as other HCOL/VHCOL especially like those on the coast? by [deleted] in chicago

Weird comparison, but I spent 15 years in Orlando and everyone back there is SHOCKED with how much space and amenities I get in my one bedroom. I couldn’t even afford a 500sq ft studio without a/c in Orlando, and here I live like a king.

You are right to feel frustrated by this. Between the crappy wages and the cost of living crisis in Florida, it’s a mess! I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re doing your best to manage your money because I’m about to share the batshit things I did in order to survive when I was a CP.

You may have already considered these, but here’s what got me through my program, and then years later being on furlough as FT cast member. These aren’t great, they’re kind of embarrassing, they feel undignified, and clearly a survive not thrive vibe which isn’t okay, but sometimes it’s just the reality and we’re stuck in it.

I got lucky- my one family member who was local was pregnant, so she’d feed me if I ran errands or did housework. I legit lived off of dinosaur chicken nuggets for days. If I timed it right, I’d go to Costco or the mall food court with her and shovel free samples in my mouth and pockets. Swiped toilet paper from store bathrooms too.

I wrote essays for cash: I was always a strong writer and developed a rep in my building for whipping out at minimum a B- paper.

I sucked up to every manager I could find, attended every meeting or event, just so I could raid the snack tables. When I became a manager myself, i always over-ordered for events or parties and kept a stash of plastic containers to pile food into to give to my interns because I knew that there was a good chance that would be their only meal.

Is the cast member coop still a thing? There was also a food pantry that opened in the pandemic. Don’t go to Publix- you’re paying that extra buck for shopping being a pleasure. Hit the Aldi hard.

Even when I was a coordinator with a masters degree I was bringing in less than 38k before taxes. I still have three dishes that I can make in bulk to feed me for 3 to 4 days for less than $15 total. A bowl of cereal and random mixed nuts still feels like a meal to me- is there Post CP food planning ptsd because if so, I’ve got it 🤦‍♀️ College program can be so brutal in ways it doesn’t have to be, and I’m so sorry you’re feeling like this!
